2 1 John 2:1, 2 - NKJV 1 My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. 2 And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world. "...if anyone sins..."

3 Sin Defined Means to miss the mark
Strong - to miss the mark, do wrong Vine - lit., "to miss the mark," is used in the NT (a) of "sinning" against God Bible - 1 John 3:4 - “Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.” We will discuss things we need to know when one sins "...if anyone sins..."

5 The sinner is not alone! All men have sinned - Romans 3:10, 23
All Christians sin - 1 John 1:8, 10 Does not abide or continue to practice it Does not live a life of sin Faithful men of old sinned and overcame it Moses - Numbers 20:7-12; Deuteronomy 34:1-5 David - 2 Samuel 11; 12:9-13 Peter - Galatians 2:11-20 Paul - Acts 8:3; 9:1-3; Gal. 1:13; 1 Cor. 15:9-10 "...if anyone sins..." 6 The sinner is without excuse!
The universal nature of sin is - no excuse Even though the results may be good, evil is wrong Romans 3:8 Romans 1:19, 20 19 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. 20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse "...if anyone sins..." Rom. 3:8 - And not rather, (as we be slanderously reported, and as some affirm that we say,) Let us do evil, that good may come? whose damnation is just.

7 Sin is against God, self , others!
Every sin is against God and self Prodigal son sinned against God - Luke 15:18, 21 Pharisees rejected counsel of God against themselves Luke 7:30 Sins can be against others The prodigal son sinned against his father Luke 15:18 Can cause a brother to sin - 1 Corinthians 8:12 "...if anyone sins..." Lk. 15:18, 21 - I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee, 21 And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy son. Lk. 7:30 - But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the counsel of God against themselves, being not baptized of him. Lk. 15:18 - I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee. 1 Cor. 8:12 - But when ye sin so against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, ye sin against Christ.

8 The sinner must be convicted!
Being “convicted” means to “convince” the sinner of his error Bible characters were convicted… David - “thou art the man…” - 2 Sam. 12:1-7, 13 Saul - “I have sinned: for I have transgressed the commandment of the Lord” 1 Samuel 15:23, 24 Pentecostians - “…by wicked hands have crucified…” Acts 2:22-23, 37-38 "...if anyone sins..." 2 Sam. 12:1-7, 13 - READ 1 Sam. 15: For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king. 24 And Saul said unto Samuel, I have sinned: for I have transgressed the commandment of the LORD, and thy words: because I feared the people, and obeyed their voice. Acts 2: READ

9 The sinner must repent or…
Be held accountable until he does God holds us accountable - Acts 8:22; 1 John 1:9 Must hold others accountable - Luke 17:3 Reap the wages of sin Death - Romans 6:23 Corruption - Galatians 6:7, 8 "...if anyone sins..." Acts 8:22 - Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray God, if perhaps the thought of thine heart may be forgiven thee. 1 Jn. 1:9 - If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. Lk. 17:3 - Take heed to yourselves: If thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him; and if he repent, forgive him. Rom. 6:23 - For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Gal. 6:7-8 - Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. 8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.

10 The sinner has an advocate!
Jesus Christ the righteous - 1 John 2:1 “Advocate” - a “counselor for the defense” Thayer Christ is on the right hand of God for us Hebrews 2:17, 18; 4:14-16 Christ, “the Shepherd and Bishop of our souls,” bore our sins in His body 1 Peter 2:24-25 Christ is faithful and just to forgive 1 John 1:8-10; Proverbs 28:13 "...if anyone sins..." 1 Jn. 2:1 - My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: 2 And he is the propitiation (atonement) for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world. Heb. 2: Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people. 18 For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted. Heb. 4: Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. 15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. 1 Pet. 2: Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed. {on: or, to} 25 For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls. 1 Jn. 1: If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. Prov. 28:13 - He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.

11 What all need to know… The sinner is not alone!
The sinner is without excuse! Sin is against God, self, others! The sinner must be convicted! The sinner must repent! The sinner has an advocate! "...if anyone sins..."

12 Conclusion What have you done about your sins?
Have you been baptized so your sins will be washed away? Acts 22:16 As a Christian, have you repented and prayed for forgiveness from God and those you may have sinned against and before? Acts 8:22; Hebrews 4:14-16 "...if anyone sins..." Acts. 22:16 - And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord. Acts 8:22 - Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray God, if perhaps the thought of thine heart may be forgiven thee.
