Movie maker and cameras
How can it enhance drama and the performance?
2
What is it? Movie maker is an editing software that allows the user to create a new video or edit a video they have already filmed. Images can be inserted into the video clip to enhance the work. Slow motion effect can be added to the video, close up effect can also be used. The video can be made into a sepia movie or a black and white to create the right atmosphere.
3
How can it be used? As a creative tool: As an educational tool:
To create video ‘backdrops’ for a performance To make performances multi dimensional As an educational tool: For self assessment Learning about television / film acting Understanding how to edit ‘bad acting’ out - how could this be used in your acting?
4
The advantages Learning how to incorporate media skills into drama lessons and performances Enhancing performances Allows weaker students to edit their work to a good standard Can create an atmosphere that is unachievable in the classroom Students work autonomously We feel that there are many advantages to using cameras in a drama lesson, such as being able to watch back performance and students being able to critique their own work.
5
The disadvantages Students editing out ‘bad performance’ means they are able to not admit to poor live performance It’s not representative of a students true acting skills Time consuming (KS3) Some schools do not have the equipment. Overall we feel that the disadvantages outweigh the advantages. Whilst we can see that there are benefits for older students for younger years movie maker would take up too much lesson time.
