On October 13, an adaptation of a funny thing happened on the way to the forum at the Insurgente Theatre in Mexico city, mexico. The show was titled “amor al reves es roma” or “love spelled backwards is rome”. Robert w. lerner produced successful Spanish versions of shows.

Howard taubman raves on and on about the “mad, comic hokum” that is a funny thing happened on the way to the forum. He makes his audience very aware of the comedy that will “keep you laughing” throughout the performance and informs them that if “he knew burlesque and vaudeville and the old comic hokum and found nothing funny in it” then “keep away from the Alvin”. Taubman also pays tribute to Sondheim by saying that his songs are “accessories to the pre-meditated offense”.
