2 Purpose & Program Goals
Provide students with a variety of interventions that have proven to be effective with students on the autism spectrum with a small teacher-student ratio. Social Thinking Behavior Modification Visual Strategies (TEACCH) Academic curriculum that addresses their current functioning levels and learning style

3 Purpose & Program Goals
To successfully teach students on the higher functioning end of the autism spectrum (or characteristics of) strategies needed to successfully participate in a general education classroom setting and in life. Strategies consist of: behavioral strategies, social-cognition strategies, technical strategies, etc.

4 Purpose & Program Goals
To increase academic skills for success within the general education setting as appropriate. To mainstream students as they demonstrated an understanding of the concepts taught within the social thinking curriculum in order to provide opportunity to practice those skill outside the intervention setting. To gradually increase the amount of time mainstreamed as they are successful with social thinking and school behaviors.

5 Student Population/ Characteristics
Students are on or have characteristics of the autism spectrum. Students are Emerging Perspective Takers. Students that have been unsuccessful in previous special education placements where strategies have been already been tried. Students have previously been involved with the social thinking curriculum which was successful, but the students were in need more intensive social thinking intervention.

7 Social Thinking Curriculum
Created by Michelle Garcia-Winner, SLP Students on the spectrum are born without a social operating system making it extremely difficult for them to have empathy or perceive what others are thinking. Focuses on behaviors that are required for success with socialization within a social setting. Focus on perspective taking and understanding social situations and thoughts that others may have (higher level cognitive skills) Assists students in working in cooperative settings successfully and breaking down these roadblocks that interfere with their academic success.
