Confidence = Preparation BE PREPARED AND ORGANISED, PLANS IN PLACE MAKE TRAINING AND PLAYING ENJOYABLE – SHOULD BE FUN. WILLINGNESS TO LEARN STUDENT OF THE GAME – LOOKING TO INCREASE KNOWLEDGE USE ASSISTANTS, GET THAT COACH to PLAYER RATIO DOWN!! HAVE PLENTY OF PATIENCE, BE A GOOD LISTENER BE APPROACHABLE AND WILLING TO COMMUNICATE ENJOYABLE TRAINING, IT MUST BE FUN USE DRILLS TO EDUCATE THE PLAYERS

FUN AND SUCCESS Ensure happy, enjoyable, positive environment Engage everyone Deal with all levels and standards Vary activities Ask questions eg. “Everybody having a good time?” “Who practised what we learnt last week?” “What can you remember from last week?” “What areas can we still improve in?” “Who’s your favourite player?” etc. REMEMBER: Make their time with you always enjoyable and evaluate the session

CONCLUSION As you are no doubt aware, the role as football educator is high profile, diverse and challenging. Its importance cannot be understated. Never underestimate your fantastic, important and significant role in a player’s pathway as you coaches are the very first point in the early stages of a player’s career in the game of Australian Football All in all, coaching sport at any level is a great experience. You have the opportunity to be involved in a team environment, constantly coming in contact with a wide array of people – they will remember you for a long time – good or bad!!
