This sentence can be changed by adding an adverb: The boy climbed cautiously up the stairs. Adverbs are ‘ly’ words that tell you how something is done. How many can you think of? It can also be changed by adding an adjective: The terrified boy climbed cautiously up the stairs. Adjectives are describing words. How many can you think of to describe the boy?

3 Sentences can be improved in lots of ways
Sentences can be improved in lots of ways. Look at these sentences and make the changes shown. Use the word list to help you. The room was cold. The door slammed shut. For each sentence: Add an adverb Add an adjective Change one word Change one sentence into an exclamation or a cliffhanger ending (what do you need to add at the end?)
