The English Reformation Goals/activities PPT on English Reformation On the RIGHT side of your next journal page (the date is 9/20), write down the answer to this: Compare and Contrast the motivation and results of Luther and Henry with there respective reformations. This will likely fill a page. LEAVE JOURNAL ON YOUR DESK AT END OF CLASS Homework: Read p On the LEFT side of your next journal page, write down the motives, hardships, and successes of a couple of the explorers. Fill more than ½ a page of the book. The date on this page is 9/20.

Monday, 9/25/17 Modern World History – subject for the day
Renaissance Speed Dating – “just friends” Goals/activities You’re new to the area. You want to get some new friends. This is your opportunity. You’ll spend 20 min interviewing people to be your friend, supporter… people you’d be proud to have as your friend, and people who might be helpful to you in life in the 16th century. Spend about 10 minutes developing questions you’d ask Renaissance people. Also, develop what you’d SAY about yourself when asked the type of questions you’d ask. In your group, develop questions you’d ask. Then, you’ll be assigned a guy. Spend 5+ min coming up with clever ways to sell yourself as a good friend. How will you be helpful? What makes you friend-worthy? How are you better than others? At the end of the dating period, you’ll choose your top 3-5, and one or two words why on a 3x5 card. Homework: Read p On LEFT side of next journal page, define the significance on the development of Spain with the following: Charles V of HRE Divine Right Charles I of Spain Spanish Armada Philip II El Greco Absolute Monarch

On 3x5 card: On top line, but the name of your Renaissance guy
Then, put your top 3-5, with a brief statement why he’d be a good friend Example: Henry VIII (that’s who I am) Philip II (he’s powerful from a nation that could help me in war, for marriage for my kids, for $$... all that) Machiavelli (he’s clever, and can help keep me in power with his ideas, because I am always irritating people) Leonardo (I like to go to war, and he invents war machines – I like that.) Julius II (even though I replaced him, I still want the Catholics to like me, because I still believe everything they believe, and still kinda want to go to heaven)

Spanish Absolutists Goals/activities Discuss findings from speed dating In your group, follow the directions on the next slide. On the right side: Discuss why you eliminated the guys you threw off, and more importantly, why you kept the three guys you kept. Homework: Read p (left side of next page) Compare Henry IV to Louis XIV. Draw a venn diagram. Then, Compare the impact of Versailles to the impact of Louis’ wars on stability for the French nation. Write a paragraph on this.
