Tryout Club, Parent and Athlete Preparation

Club Preparation Sanction your tryout by filling out the Tryout Sanction Form When posting make sure you inform players if you are looking for all positions at the tryout or just filling a few positions on an invitation team. Post information on Club fees, team selection, practice time and playing time. A club brochure or something on website is very handy for parents.

Club Tryout Staff Workers at the tryout need to be:
Current USAV members. ( memberships good through Oct 31, 2016) Have a current USAV background screening. They should also have SafeSport training.

Tryout Fees Club Tryout fees should NOT include a membership cost.
Participants should do their memberships online if possible. If a One day membership they should have an confirmation showing the date for which the membership is valid. If a paper registration form and fees are collected you must mail them in on the next business day.

Valid Memberships for Participants
If you were a USAV member for the season, that membership is current and valid for tryouts through Oct 31, 2016. If you are only trying out for 1 day (multiple club tryouts in that one day) you should use the ONE-DAY MEMBERSHIP option for $10. If you are doing multiple tryouts on different dates you should use the OCTOBER/NOVEMBER TRYOUT MEMBERSHIP. This option is valid Oct. 5- Nov 23, 2016 and can be used for up to 5 tryout dates $15.

Memberships Full Memberships should NOT be selected until you are chosen by a club. There are no refunds if you do not make a club. You can upgrade by renewing your membership from the membership page. The One Day and Oct/Nov Tryout memberships may be upgraded to a Full membership and the $10 or $15 fees will be applied to the cost of the full membership.

Parent & Athlete Planning
Talk with your athlete about what they want from this experience. Go to the Iowa Region Website iavbreg.org Review Clubs in your area. Practice & playing time- number of tournaments. Level of teams, local, regional or national. Coaches experience and number per team Costs and what is included in the costs.

Age Definitions Players for Age Level Teams (going to Qualifiers and Nationals) must be the age listed (or younger) through August 31st, 2017. No waivers will be given to teams competing in events that qualify a team for National Competition. No boys allowed on age level teams. Players of Grade teams must be in the listed grade or a younger grade.

Iowa Age Level team all players must meet these age requirements. Iowa Grade Level teams may have waivers for players that do not meet the age requirement so long as they are in the appropriate grade. Boys may be waivered on to a girl’s grade level team for 8th grade / 14u & younger teams.

Tryout Dates The Iowa Region in support of IGHSAU regulations will not sanction club tryouts that take place while an athlete's high school is still in season. This also puts less pressure on the athletes during an important competition period. Players and Club Directors should check with the IGHSAU and their High School board for their tryout restrictions.

How Teams are Formed-Tryout vs Invitations
Teams are formed by invitation tryouts or combination of invitation and tryout for remaining positions. Clubs should indicate on all tryout materials if the tryout is for all positions or just for the remaining positions. If for remaining positions, the positions should be listed in the tryout materials. If participants are unsure what position are available ask before paying the tryout fees.

Offers by Clubs or Teams
A club or team may offer a player a position in their club or team at anytime. Coaches or club directors may not force players to give a verbal commitment before the commitment dates listed in this policy. Clubs who extend offers must keep the offered position open until the same deadlines listed below. A club or team should use the Player/ Club Commitment Letter. Only a signed letter will be accepted as proof of commitment. The Commitment Letter should be sent to players that are invited verbally or by . A Player accepting an invitation by phone, in-person or via must sign a Commitment Letter. All Commitment Letters are kept with the club to present in case of a dispute.

Club Invitations Players who are invited to play on a team/club may sign a Commitment Letter at anytime. Coaches or club directors may not force players to give a verbal commitment before the commitment dates listed in this policy. Once they sign the Commitment Letter they cannot attend any other club’s tryouts. A Player is committed to the team/club they signed with for the entire season. If a player has received more than one Commitment Letter or offer, any non-selected clubs must be informed within 24 hours of final acceptance. Players should also keep a copy of the Commitment Letter to present in case of a dispute. If a club extends a verbal offer and does not include a Commitment Letter, it is recommended that the player’s parents or guardians fill out the information of the offer on the Commitment Letter and send to the club to get a signature on the offer. This is for the protection of the player and to prevent Clubs from forcing a commitment before the deadline.

Offer Period for 15U and older
Offer Periods: A player can not be forced to sign or commit to the club or team before the following deadlines. Clubs who extend verbal offers must keep the offered position open until the same deadlines listed below. 15U and older offer period. Once an offer is made, the club must hold that position available for the player, until the deadlines listed below. A club cannot force a player 15U and older to make a commitment until 4 PM on the Wednesday following the State of Iowa Girls High School Volleyball Tournament. (November 16, 2016) For tryouts which occur after that date, a player 15U and older has until 4 PM on the Wednesday following the tryout to inform the club if they accept or decline the offer. If a player has received more than one Commitment Letter, The Player MUST inform the non-selected clubs within 24 hours of final acceptance.

Offer Periods: A player can not be forced to sign or commit to the club or team before the following deadlines. Clubs who extend verbal offers must keep the offered position open until the same deadlines listed below. 14U and younger offer period. Once an offer is made, the club must hold that position available for the player, until the deadlines listed below. A club cannot force a player 14U and younger to make a commitment until 4PM on the Wednesday following the first Sunday in November. (November 9, 2016) For tryouts which occur after that date, a player has until 4 PM on the Wednesday following the tryout to inform the club if they accept or decline the offer. If a player has received more than one Commitment Letter, The Player MUST inform the non-selected clubs within 24 hours of final acceptance.

Club Tryout Violations
Coaches or Club Directors Violation of Tryout Policies Forcing Commitment: Coaches or club directors forcing a player to give a verbal or written commitment before the dates listed above. Not Holding Position: Coaches or club directors not holding the offered position. Club Penalties for above violations Release all team members for that particular team. These players will then have the option to play on the team that is reformed or tryout or play for other club teams. Qualifier Restrictions: Furthermore, the team or age division in which the violation occurred will not be allowed to play in any Qualifying event in the Iowa Region or Nationally. Out of Region Events: Banned from out of region events held after the Iowa Regionals.

Player Tryout Violations
Player Violation of Tryout Policies Common violations: May only sign one (1) Commitment Letter. Backing out of this commitment, or attending another tryout. Falsification of Commitment Letter: If a player falsifies any part of this Commitment Letter, including the date. Player Penalty: All the listed violations result in player suspension for the entire season. Out of Region Events: Banned from out of region events held after the Iowa Regionals.

Commitment Letter The Commitment Letter is found on the Tryout Section of the Iowa Region Indoor Junior Page The Commitment Letter should be used by the Club and Participants to make sure everyone is on the same page before the season starts. Once a Commitment Letter is sign the participants are locked in to that club for the season. So it is in the participants best interest to get all the details spelled out.

Commitment Letter The Commitment Letter is found on the Tryout Section of the Iowa Region Indoor Junior Page Clubs may send the offer by phone or and the acceptance may be by the same, BUT the commitment letter should be signed as soon as possible. Once you Select a club PLAYER DESCISION SECTION
I understand that I cannot attend any tryouts for other clubs after I sign this Commitment Letter. If I Accept this offer and I agree to all the terms of the letter and cannot dispute these with the club unless the club does not meet the listed commitments. I understand that I cannot change clubs after I sign this Commitment Letter. I know I must inform clubs I have NOT selected within 24 Hours of accepting another Club, so that they have a chance to fill my spot on their team.

Updating your membership.
If you used a One Day or October/November Tryout membership for tryouts. If you used your membership from last season (for tryouts through Oct 31st) you will need to go in an renew your membership. Here is how you do it. You will need to Log in to you membership again and upgrade to a full member. Hit the Click Here to Renew button and you will get the upgrade options on the 2nd screen. On the 2nd Screen upper right hand corner you will also now select your club for the season. ONCE you have selected the club you are locked in to that club for the season UNLESS you have made an error- if so contact or call
