3 The Irony The conspirators, whose purpose was to restore liberty and peace to Rome, have brought chaos and lawlessness.

4 Characters Artemidorus and Soothsayer- unable to warn JC enough
Antony—emerges as an effective politician

5 Conspirators Cassius—emotional, tries to warn Brutus, no longer in control Casca—first to stab JC Decius—uses flattery to lure JC to capitol Trebonius –removes Antony from scene Metellus—distracts JC Brutus—remains naïve and impractical

6 Brutus’s speech Appeal to reason JC was too ambitious
His murder was a good deed Murderers are honorable Uses cold words Appeal to reason

7 Antony’s speech (Faces hostile crowd) He can’t insult conspirators
(so he reverses Brutus’s ideas) Uses tricks Emotions Props (body/cloak, will) Repetition Honorable Ambitious APPEALS TO EMOTIONS Results: STIRS CROWD TO REBELLION!
