2 Applying for Financial Aid
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid, aka FAFSA, the document that colleges around the country use to determine the amount of financial aid to award to students, was released on October 1. To qualify to file a FAFSA you must meet one of the following: U.S. Citizen Permanent U.S. resident with an Alien Registration Card (I-551) Conditional permanent U.S. resident with visa type I-551C. Eligible noncitizen with an Arrival/Departure Record (I-94) showing one of the following: Refugee, Asylum granted, Parolee (for a minimum of one year), or Cuban-Haitian entrant

6 Types of Financial Aid Grants Loans Loans:
All grants are needs based and have a requirement of 6 credit hours for graduate students. EFC Requirements: Educational Affordability Grant: 4000 Next Step Grant: 5000 Texas Public Education Grant: 6000 Loans All loans require 6 credit hours. Students borrow directly from the federal government. All loans require completion of a Master Promissory Note and Entrance Loan Counselling. Plus Loans are credit based and require a separate application. Loans: Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan Federal Direct Plus Loan

9 Satisfactory Academic Progress
The University of Texas at Tyler is required to establish satisfactory academic progress standards for financial aid applicants and recipients in accordance with federal regulations. These standards ensure that only those recipients demonstrating satisfactory progress toward the completion of their educational programs continue to receive financial aid.  Measures: GPA: Graduate Students must have maintain a 3.0 GPA Completion Rate: Must successfully complete 66.67% of attempted hours. Maximum Time Limit: Must complete your program of study within 150% of the published program length. Failure to meet any of these standards at the time of evaluation will result in a student loosing financial aid eligibility.
