White light is made up of many colours.
We see these colours when white light splits up. These colours are the Visible Spectrum. Explain

Light has three primary colours – red, blue and green.
This is different from paint primary colours! Explain

Task One : Mixing Light Open the “Colour-vision_en.jar” program in the theory lesson five folder. Click on the RGB bulbs tab. Use the colour sliders to mix the light. Copy and fill out the table on the next slide in your book.

A blue filter lets blue light through.

Reflection A coloured surface absorbs all the other colours and only reflects light of its colour.

Imagine… What would happen if I shone light from a blue filter on a red surface?

Task Two: Flags and Filters
Open this web site: Use the colour filters to look at the Japanese Flag. In your book, explain why: 1. The Red centre of the flag cannot be seen using the red filter. 2. The Red centre turns black when the green filter it used.

How does our eye see colours? Start by researching the following words: Retina Rod Cells Cone Cells Use what you find to make a small “info graphic” explaining how the eye sees colour – you can do it in your book or using your Netbook
