Year 1

2 Learning Behaviour Independence Resilience
Taking charge of their own belongings. Resilience Taking responsibility for their learning. Changing reading books, handing in homework. Putting their P.E. kits, forest school kits on pegs. Putting coats on pegs, cardigans and jumpers in jumper box. Putting homework in the learning log tray on a Wednesday. Changing books if they need changing. Reading at home, doing homework, practising spellings and timestables. As long as they have practised and done their best they should be happy with their results.

3 Meeting the Standard Assessment has changed
The Government has set a standard that it expects children to meet at the end of each Year or Key Stage. Your child will be assessed against the Standard and will be awarded one of 3 judgments: Working towards the standard Met the expected standard Working at greater depth

4 Reading Every child is heard to read in a Guided Reading group each week by the teacher. We aim to hear every child read individually at least once a week. Reading at home. If you have any spare time we would love you to help us hear children read. Reading sessions take place daily between 9:00am-9:30am.

5 Handwriting Children are taught to write in cursive script.
We practise handwriting everyday for 15 minutes in handwriting books. The aim is for children to transfer their cursive handwriting into their independent writing.

6 English To use the prefix ‘un’
To be able to add s, es or to make words plural To be able to add ing, er and ed to words To write in sentences (it is not a sentence unless it starts with a capital letter and ends in a full stop.) To be able to separate words with spaces, use a capital letter for ‘I’ and at the beginning of sentences and to use full stops and exclamation marks correctly. An exclamation sentence must start with the words ‘what’ or ‘how’. To be able to talk about their work using the following words: Letter, sentence, word, full stop, capital letter, singular, plural, punctuation, question mark and exclamation mark.

7 Maths to meet the expected standard.
To be able to partition 2 digit numbers To be able to add 2 two digit numbers within 100 To be able to use estimation to check their answers are correct. To be able to subtract mentally a two digit number from another 2 digit number. To be able To use standard measures to work out length, weight and capacity To know the value of coins
