When is the exam? How long is the exam? How many marks is Question 1? How many marks is Question 2? How many marks is Question 3 A? How many marks is Question 3 B? How many marks are awarded for the quality of your writing? What is a good overall score? What makes the grade boundaries change?

2 Question 1 – Top Tips Whilst Writing – 30 minutes
Before Writing – 15 minutes Read passage A Summarise each paragraph with a key word Read the question Number the bullet points Highlight the bullet points in 3 different colours Highlight the passage in the 3 colours Practice using your own words in your head – Nouns allowed Practice your inferences for bullet point 3 Whilst Writing – 30 minutes Use the open sentence given. Don’t use too much waffle or build up. Focus purely on the bullet point. Try to get at least 5 ideas from the passage into your writing. (per bullet point) 5 marks available for the quality of your writing so check after each paragraph.

BP3: Express your thoughts about the next days of this adventure. ‘Really, Redmond,’ said James, raising himself on an elbow and looking about, ‘you’re absurd!’

4 Question 2 – Top Tips Before Writing – 5 minutes
Re-Read the paragraphs In your head select your 4 quotes. Ask yourself if the quote relates to the topic. Ask yourself if the quote is effective (attention grabbing) Highlight the 4 quotes (Per paragraph) Number the quotes – 1 = the best Whilst Writing – 30 minutes Introduce your powerful quote Explain the surface meaning Explain the deeper meaning Explain the effect the writer is trying to achieve Be quick Identify language features if you can.

5 Question 3 (A)– Top Tips You don’t have to use your own words.
Before Writing – 15 minutes Read Passage B Read the Question and highlight the two topics. Re-read Passage B Highlight as many relevant answers as you can. Review your answers – which make your top 15 (Balance) Try to go in order. Whilst Writing – 10 minutes You don’t have to use your own words. You do need to have complete, short sentences/points. Avoid putting more than one idea into a bullet point. Try to go in order. The box is small for a reason.

6 Question 3 (A)– Top Tips Before Writing – 1 minute
Review your bullet points. Practice in you head turning them into your own words. Whilst Writing – 14 minutes Turn your bullet points into full sentences. Use your own words (You might have done already + Nouns) Go in order. Find a logical place to stop the paragraph (BP 7 or 8) Start a new paragraph. Check your accuracy and quality.
