1 Team 10 Plant Observations: Number of Leaves
Hypothesis: We think that the plants with more fertilizer will have more leaves because fertilizer will make the plants stronger and more able to produce leaves. Question: How does varying amounts of fertilizer affect the amount of leaves produced? Summary: We put different amounts of Osmocote Fertilizer into four different containers. This is the variable because there were different amounts in each container (0, 1, 2, 3). Inside of those containers we put in Brassica Rapa seeds. We had string attached to our plants through the bottom, and the string went into a reservoir, which gave our plants water. As our plants grew, we counted the number of leaves that each plant produced. Each day, we took pictures of our plants’ progress and recorded our data. A couple things that we found were the “dwarfs” generally had more leaves than the taller plants and the leaves started dying after the plants mated. Conclusion: In conclusion our hypothesis was inconclusive. Sarita, Gabby, and Britney’s plants with the most leaves did have the most fertilizer, all with three pellets. But for Myra, her plant that had the most leaves produced had two fertilizer pellets. The plants with the least amount of leaves seemed to vary for everyone. The only person’s plants that stayed true to our hypothesis was Sarita’s because her plants had more leaves, Myra, Britney, and Gabby’s plants didn’t really show a pattern. This is our control graph with all the information on our control plants and the average of our leaf production for these particular plants. This is our graph that has all the information on our plants with 1 pellet of fertilizer and how many leaves that plant produced, and the average of the amount of leaves our plants produced. Britney’s plant on day 16 of its growing process. Gabby’s plant on day 9 of its growing process. This is our graph that has all the information on our plants with 2 pellets of fertilizer and how many leaves that plant produced, and the average of the amount of leaves our plants produced. Myra’s plant on day 21 of its growing process. Sarita’s plant on day 15 of its growing process. This is our graph that has all the information on our plants with 3 pellets of fertilizer and how many leaves that plant produced, and the average of the amount of leaves our plants produced.
