Testing update April 15, 2013 Parent Information Meeting

2 So what’s new with testing this year? Just about everything…
Enhanced Math and Reading EOGs- based on the new Common Core and Essential Standards Enhanced 8th Grade Science EOG will be online All students will take a Social Studies Common Exam All 6th and 7th graders will take a Science Common Exam “School Performance Grades” will be generated from a school’s performance on EOGs

3 The EOGs have been redesigned to be more rigorous
There will be no retest available this year Results will not be published until October 2013 Renorming will likely affect student scores EOG results will not impact promotion standards this year only

5 6th Grade Math: Constructed Response (Also called Gridded Response)
A company is having a picnic. The expenses will be for music and refreshments. The music will cost $150.00 The refreshments will cost $125.00 Tickets will be sold for $2.50 per employee What is the minimum number of tickets that must be sold to pay for the picnic expenses?

7 What is a Common Final Exam?
Also called an MSL (Measures of Student Learning) Measures students’ academic progress in the Essential Standards MSL are 90 minute tests. There are two types of questions Multiple Choice Constructed Response What is the purpose of Common Final Exams (MSL) anyway?

8 Overall Grade Scale: A: 90-100 B: 80-89 C: 70-79 D: 60-69
During the Summer of 2012… The General Assembly’s budget requires the assignment of A-F grades for all schools Elementary/Middle Performance Composite Plus Growth Adjustment (5 points for meeting growth; 10 points for exceeding growth) Overall Grade Scale: A: B: C: 70-79 D: F: Less than 60 Points

11 VERY Important… Your student needs to be present for every test. We will only have one week for make-ups, and students do better when they test with their regular classes and teachers Be positive and encouraging with your student. ENDURANCE is probably one of the most important skills… Support your student in completing complicated tasks and reading for extended periods of time Make sure your students gets good rest, good exercise, and healthful food in the weeks leading up to the tests
