1 DESTINATION MARS

2 The mars orbiter mission

3 INTRODUCTION: Things above and beneath us have always created interest in every common man. Scientists have interpreted every lay man’s views and today we speak of units reaching from 1034 to Mars Orbiter Mission in this context is a challenging mission to our country’s technical aspects in terms of deep space mission which is one of the major objectives of this mission.

4 A Glimpse of the red planet….
It is the 4th planet from the sun. It is described as the red planet because of the presence of iron oxide prevalent on the surface Half of earth’s diameter, 15% of earth’s volume, 11%of earth’s mass Average distance from sun-230million Km[1.5 AU] Orbital period is 687 earth days

5

6 Why only MARS is a planet of interest???

7 There are several similarities between Mars and the earth: their solid surface, their seasons, duration of the day, their polar ice caps, their number of days they take to go around the sun etc…. Besides water exists on Mars…..

8 There’s something about “MARS”
EARTH MARS Earth takes 365 days to go around sun. Earth’s axis is tilted 23o from the vertical. A day on earth is 24 hour. Mars takes 687 days , almost twice the time taken by the earth. Mars tilts about 25o. On Mars it is 24hour 39minute

10 The ‘‘MARS ORBITER MISSION’’
It is India’s maiden inter-planetary deep space mission to Mars… The spacecraft will be departing the earth’s orbit on 30th Nov and will be reaching the mars orbit on 24th Sep It was launched from SATISH DHAWAN space center on 5th Nov. An average estimate of the amount for the MOM is around $69million.

11

12 MOM- AN OVERVIEW It has 3 solar panels each of 1.8 to 1.4m in size capable of producing a power of 840W. The spacecraft weighs 1337kg and carries a suite of 5 instruments to study mars, its atmosphere and acquire photos. Dry mass- 475kg, payload mass- 15kg, fuel load-852kg. It uses unsymmetrical DIMETHYL PHENYL HYDRAZINE And MIXED OXIDES OF NITROGEN as fuel

13 Some of the instruments onboard the “MARS ORBITER”

14 LAP - Measure hydrogen to deuterium abundance ratio…
LAP - Measure hydrogen to deuterium abundance ratio….. MSM - Designed to measure methane concentration on Martian atmosphere with parts per billion accuracy… TIS - Measures thermal emissions from Martian atmosphere to deduce surface composition and mineralogy.

24 CONCLUSION: This mission is an outcome of the developing technology in various scientific fields. Hope that this mission fulfills its primary cause. Its as if Mars is challenging us, saying, “Hey find out what this means…..”
