2. What is Espanta Suegras?
Espanta Suegras® - is a sophisticated blend of exceptional quality 100% Agave Tequila reposado, infused with locally grown traditional herbs, an authentic Mexican herbal tequila liqueur from the Jalisco region of Central Mexico -. Winner of the Gold Medal and rated 90 points "Exceptional" for Liqueur by the jury of experts at the 2006 International Review of Spirits.

3. Family “roots”
The product is reminiscent of the taste of traditional European liqueurs - with good reason. Ramón Tarré, grandfather of Guillermo Mendoza, emigrated from Barcelona, Spain in the early 1900s and began making alcoholic beverages in his new home in Central México.
Today, the youngest Mendoza has brought together the traditional family liqueur recipe with a festive, modern twist. The product's name, Espanta Suegras®, was based on Mexican popular folk culture. The blow out party favors, commonly used for celebrating New Years Eve in México, are colloquially called "espanta suegras," literally meaning "the one for scaring off mothers-in-law.”

In 2005 Guillermo Mendoza created Espanta Suegras as a blend of his two origins: the Spanish tradition of herbal liqueurs with the Mexican spirit of Tequila.

5. The Birth of Espanta Suegras
History of the Tarre’ Family
Ramon is born in Barcelona, Spain in December 18th, 1878
Crisis in Spain due to independence of territories caused a great economic turmoil and unemployment.
In July 26th 1899, at 20 years old, Ramon arrives at Mexico.
Brother Juan died in Mexico, Ramon kept writing his mother Sebastiana for years (as Juan).
Married with Ana María in Zamora, Michoacán
Guadalajara
Winemaking in Mexico was very limited but with high demand for wine, he decided to follow his passion and became wine importer.
In January 19th, 1944 Mercedes Tarré married Guillermo Mendoza
Guillermo Mendoza shared Ramón Tarré passion for wines and liquors.
Around Guillermo and Mercedes founded La Colonial, an import and distribution store in Zamora
La Colonial became a regional reference of imported foods, wines and liquors.
Guillermo Mendoza Tarre’ born November 2nd 1946
In 1964 along with his mother he moved to Guadalajara after closing La Colonial.
In the 80’s, as CEO of COINSA, he led the efforts of exporting Tequila as a CATEGORY to the US
In 2005, after retiring as CEO of Danisco Mexico, he decided to return to the passion of the family: wines and liqueurs.
