2 The big questions What Marketing has to do with Anthropology and what the Anthropologists do there?  How do the anthropological insights in consumer behavior impact the anthropological theory?  Why are "things" so important in human lives?  What are some of the ethical issues for anthropologists in the field?

4 Consumers and Anthropology
Marketing and consumption are important forces in human behavior ; understanding them is important in understanding the political economy and the world system. Advertisers and marketing managers can use anthropological methods to get closer to the consumers and get greater understanding in consumer’s needs and product use.

5 Material Culture and Human Behavior
Artifacts: All physical objects that a cultural group produces and utilizes. Anthropologists are interested in the type of exchange as well as the objects being exchanged Understanding consumption is a key in understanding culture Consumption: the process at work when consumers goods are created, bought, and used
