2. 1) What is a photogram? A photogram is a piece of art designed
without a camera. There is an
example of a photogram next to
the text on the right.
The equipment used for creating a photogram are
specific such as; a light source, sheet of glass,
safe light, timer, thermometer, developer, stop bath, fixer, running water, measuring cylinders, 3 developing trays, print drying pack and a pack of printing paper.

3. 2) The Photogram was invented in the 1800’s (at the time known as ‘Photogenic Drawings’). Who was this inventor?
William Henry Fox Talbot. He was a graduate of Trinity College in Cambridge.
William had frustration with the Lucida camera which he managed to re-gather his experiences early with a drafting aid called the obscura camera that has a smaller wooden box with a lens at one end that projects a scene before it gets placed onto a piece of frosted glass at the back.

Movement is a type of art in photography, it catches lots of creativity towards the viewers eye. The detail in movement could be seen as imaginative because of the features you capture such as; lines, edges, shapes and colour. Movement is slightly tied to rhythm.

6. 5)Identify 2 other artists that have worked with Photograms.
Hannah HOCH – has the most famous work. One art piece showing a collage of newspaper clippings, the work challenges the racist and sexist codes upholding Weimar Germany.
Raoul HAUSMANN – This artist was friends with Schwitters. He had abandoned a painting piece in 1923 and based all his work on photography instead. His interests are based on photograms, rayograms and pictograms.
