Natural resource: any natural material that is used by humans Ex: air, soil, minerals, water, petroleum, plants, and animals On your paper, draw something you use natural resources for What is a Natural Resource?

3 Renewable vs Nonrenewable
Renewable resource: a natural resource that can be replaced at the same rate that it is consumed Ex: solar energy, water, and air Nonrenewable resource: a resource that forms at a rate that is much slower than the rate it is consumed Ex: minerals like aluminum & iron ore, fossil fuels like oil Fossil fuel: a nonrenewable resource formed from buried remains of plants and animals that lived long ago Renewable vs Nonrenewable Renewable Sunlight (solar energy) Wind Air Plants Water Nonrenewable Coal Oil Natural gas Minerals

4 Material and Energy Resources
Material resource: a natural resource that humans use to make objects or to consume as food/drink Energy resource: a natural resource that humans use to generate energy. Most energy used by humans comes from fossil fuels. What is an example of a material resource and energy resource that you use each day? Material and Energy Resources

5 Renewable or Nonrenewable
Pick something that you use everyday (like your phone, computer, a jacket, etc.) Draw and fill in the chart on your paper with the material and energy resources needed to make the thing you chose.
