1 Matthew 14:13-21 John 6:1-14; Mk 6:32-44; Lk 9:10-17
Overcoming Bad News! Matthew 14:13-21 John 6:1-14; Mk 6:32-44; Lk 9:10-17

2 Eccl 3:16 "Moreover I saw under the sun: In the place of judgment, wickedness was there; And in the place of righteousness, Iniquity was there.”

3 Matthew 14:13-14 13 When Jesus heard it, He departed from there by boat to a deserted place by Himself. But when the multitudes heard it, they followed Him on foot from the cities. 14 And when Jesus went out He saw a great multitude; and He was moved with compassion for them, and healed their sick.

4 Matthew 14:15-18 15 When it was evening, His disciples came to Him, saying, “This is a deserted place, and the hour is already late. Send the multitudes away, that they may go into the villages and buy themselves food.” 16 But Jesus said to them, “They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat.” 17 And they said to Him, “We have here only five loaves and two fish.” 18 He said, “Bring them here to Me.”

5 Matthew 14:19-21 19 Then He commanded the multitudes to sit down on the grass. And He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, He blessed and broke and gave the loaves to the disciples; and the disciples gave to the multitudes. 20 So they all ate and were filled, and they took up twelve baskets full of the fragments that remained. 21 Now those who had eaten were about five thousand men, besides women and children.

6 What can we learn about His ATTITUDE when He heard the BAD NEWS?
Be Focus - Luke 9:9 Be Compassionate - John 6:34 Be Good Steward - Luke 9:14-17

7 Be Focus "Herod said, “John I have beheaded, but who is this of whom I hear such things?” So he sought to see Him." -Luke 9:9. 2 Timothy 1:7, "7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.“ The Challenge HERE… 2 Cor. 5:7, "For we walk by faith, not by sight." 2 Cor 4:16-18, "16 Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing,…”

8 Christ is CHALLENGING us here
Be Compassionate! "And Jesus, when He came out, saw a great multitude and was moved with compassion for them, because they were like sheep not having a shepherd...." - Mark 6:34 How was it expressed? The Bible says.. 1. He Taught Them - "... and He received them and spoke to them about the kingdom of God,.." - Luke 9:11. 2. He Healed Them - "... and healed those who had need of healing." - Luke 9:11. 3. He Fed Them - "... “You give them something to eat.... So they all ate and were filled.” - Mark 6:37-42. 2 Cor. 1:3, “…the Father of mercies and God of all comfort," Christ is CHALLENGING us here Colossians 3:12-13 "Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies,…”

9 Be Good Steward "For there were about five thousand men. Then He said to His disciples, “Make them sit down in groups of fifty  So they all ate and were filled, and twelve baskets of the leftover fragments were taken up by them.” - Luke 9:14-17. OUR CHALLENGE here…. For God is not the author of confusion but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints. - 1 Cor. 14:33 "Let all things be done decently and in order." - 1 Cor. 14:40. "Moreover it is required in stewards that one be found faithful.“ - 1 Cor. 4:1,

10 Summary John 17:15-18 says, "I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one.16 They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 17 Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth. 18 As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world. 19 And for their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they also may be sanctified by the truth.“ Dear friends, I warn you as “temporary residents and foreigners” to keep away from worldly desires that wage war against your very souls.12 Be careful to live properly among your unbelieving neighbors. Then even if they accuse you of doing wrong, they will see your honorable behavior, and they will give honor to God when he judges the world - 1 Pet. 2:11-12.
