Christlike Forgiveness – Part 5
Playing Christ! Christlike Forgiveness – Part 5
2
“Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect” (Matthew 5:48).
“Do not judge, or you too will be judged…” (Matthew 7:1). Matthew 5:7 tells us… “Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy,” because being merciful is showing graciousness. Paul said, “Let your gentleness be evident to all” (Philippians 4:5).
3
Encourage—Will this encourage them? Will it make them feel better?
Ask when speaking about another person – Will this meet their NEED? Necessary—Is it necessary to say this? Encourage—Will this encourage them? Will it make them feel better? Edify—Will it edify? Will what you say build them up and make them stronger? Dignify—Will it dignify that person? Jesus treated other people with a sense of dignity.
4
“The spiritual man makes judgments about all things” (1 Corinthians 2:15).
Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven (LUKE 6:37).
5
AVOID BEING CRITICAL OF OTHERS…
“If you do away with the yoke of oppression, with the pointing finger and malicious talk, and if you spend yourselves on behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like the noonday” (ISAIAH 58:9-10). “Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone” (Colossians 4:6).
6
“Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult, but with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing” (1 Peter 3:9). “But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken” (Matthew 12:36). TEV translates (Matthew 7:1) “Do not judge others, so that God will not judge you”.
7
Why Apply Jesus Warning to my Life?
There are two levels of motivation for applying Jesus’ words... Self-interest To avoid grieving the Holy Spirit

CASE STUDY - NATHAN AND DAVID
“Now a traveller came to the rich man, but the rich man refrained from taking one of his own sheep or cattle to prepare a meal for the traveller who had come to him. Instead, he took the ewe lamb that belonged to the poor man and prepared it for the one who had come to him” (2 SAMUEL 12:4). “As surely as the LORD lives”(that’s strong language, the taking of an oath) “the man who did this deserves to die! He must pay for that lamb four times over, because he did such a thing and had no pity” (2 Samuel 12:4). “You are the man!” (2 Samuel 12:7). “The sword will never depart from your house” (2 Samuel 12:10).
9
“Be holy, because I am holy” (1 Peter 1:16).
JUDGING IS ALWAYS GOD’S PREROGATIVE “Be holy, because I am holy” (1 Peter 1:16). “Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful” (Luke 6:36).
10
He knows the truth about us He is ruthlessly fair
If you and I are foolish enough to administer uncalled-for criticism, we should remember three things: God is listening He knows the truth about us He is ruthlessly fair
11
“Do not pay attention to every word people say or you may hear your servant cursing you” (ECCLESIASTES 7:21). “Do not revile the king even in your thoughts, or curse the rich in your bedroom, because a bird of the air may carry your words, and a bird on the wing may report what you say” (ECCLESIASTES 10:20).
12
“You, then, why do you judge your brother
“You, then, why do you judge your brother? Or why do you look down on your brother? For we will all stand before Gods judgment seat” (ROMANS 14:10). In 1 Corinthians 11:30, Paul says… “That is why many among you are weak and sick, and a number of you have fallen asleep.”
13
“Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, “Let me take the speck out of your eye,” when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye” (MATTHEW 7:3).
