1 Computational Design In Search of Design Excellence
Tools and processes are emerging for iterative analysis to seek the optimal balance between building performance, aesthetic aspiration and constructability. Welcome to a discussion on “Computational Design – In Search of Design Excellence” ????? Hello…. I’m Andy Smith, Architect and member of the AIA TAP Advisory Group.

2 AIA Learning Objectives
Be able to lead a discussion regarding computational design within your firm, “What is it?”. Be able to guide a project level discussion to consider using computational design, “How to get started?”. Be aware of available software technologies for computational design, “Available applications”. Be able to cite the benefits of computational design through acknowledgement of successful projects Following today’s webinar we hope that you will be:

3 Got Questions? Please use the Chat box in the GoToWebinar app pane to submit a question. Questions will be answered at the end of the webinar as time allows. When able, all questions will be sent to the speakers for written response and published on the TAP website. We have invited 3 industry leaders to present…. During their presentations if you have a question… please use the Chat box in the GoToWebinar app pane to submit your question Questions will be answered at the end of the webinar as time allows.

9 Nathan Miller Nathan Miller Associate Partner CASE
We are fortunate to have 3 industry leaders presenting today. Let me introduce you to them…. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Nathan Miller is Associate Partner at CASE, a Building Information consultancy. As Director of Architecture & Engineering Solutions, Nate he is responsible for leading the efforts on technology strategy, project information management, and computational design implementation. Prior to joining CASE, Nate was an Associate and Designer at NBBJ where focused on the development and implementation of computational design systems for generative design, production efficiency, and building performance. Nathan will begin our discussion with an introduction to ‘computational design’ and highlighting benefits to the project and client.

10 Sean Burke Sean Burke Associate Design Technology Manager NBBJ
Sean Burke is a Design Technology Manager for NBBJ, a global architecture and planning firm. Sean has extensive experience in the architecture profession, and is a LEED accredited professional. A leading expert in building information modeling (BIM) processes and tools, he has presented at Autodesk University and local user groups. His blog, Paradigm shift, explores the trends and integration of BIM and sustainable design. Sean will provide an example of computational design focusing on the quality of space with utilizing analytics.

11 Robert Cervellione Robert Cervellione Principal CERVER Design Studio
Robert Cervellione is principal of CERVER Design Studio, a multi-disciplinary forward thinking design and consulting practice focusing on small to mid-sized practices. His work focuses on the integration and use of digital design and advanced fabrication techniques into design and construction. In addition to his professional work he is a professor at Pratt Institute, Graduate Architecture and Urban Design and New York City College of Technology where he teaches courses in digital media, fabrication, and BIM.
