1. Made up of 66 books that were written over 1600 years (~1500 BC to 100 AD) by around 40 different people. a. OT – 39 Books (~1500 BC to 400 BC), written mostly in Hebrew (and some Aramaic) b. NT – 27 Books (~45 AD to 100 AD), written in Greek (common Greek – koine)

2. The books were collected, arranged, and recognized as inspired sacred authority by councils of rabbis and church leaders based on careful guidelines.

3. The Bible was the first book to be printed on the printing press with moveable type (Gutenberg Press in 1455). Nearly 6000 Greek Manuscripts from the NT still exist today. The Dead Sea Scrolls found in a cave in 1947 contain the oldest known copies of the OT. These confirmed the OT we have was right and true.

4. The Bible has been translated into nearly 3,000 languages; however, 2000 people groups are still without a Bible in their own language.

There are many modern translations: a. Word for Word (Formal Equivalence). As close to the original text as possible. b. Thought for Thought (Dynamic Equivalence). Apparent meaning is translated into the text. c. Blend. d. Paraphrase.

So What? 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (ESV) 16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.
