1 Monetizing IoT in India
Dr Rishi Bhatnagar, President, Aeris India & Chairman IET-IOT Panel

2 The Challenges in our Country are UNIQUE
Plenty Institutes, but Skill Gap is huge Labour Cost is cheap, but the trend is moving towards Automation Highest number of Graduates, not as many Job opportunities 65% of patients in Rural India, but 75% of the medical facilities are concentrated in urban areas So are the Solutions Required

3 Addressable IoT Market in India
The global market for IoT in 2020 will be worth $373 billion in revenue, with $194 billion from hardware and $179 billion from software. 100 smart cities (INR 7060 Crores) Launch of the Digital India programme Government  measures to boost the ESDM industry India’s first ‘Internet of Things Policy’ drafted by DeitY International IoT Research Collaboration scheme India will account for $10-12 billion of this total revenue NASSCOM

4 The changing technological landscape has
The changing technological landscape has turned the revenue potential upside down Smart services like BI, security, analytics are predicted to corner a larger share of the overall revenue pie than they did before This data explosion presents opportunities to capitalise on behavior of systems and people. Organizations in industries such as electricity supply, manufacturing, logistics, and retail that can effectively harness and exploit the data created by the IoT will enjoy a significant competitive advantage. It gives a huge opportunity to developers to help customers / organizations by offering intelligent analytics tools and providing guidance on best practice to enable them to make the most of the data. Over the years the changing technological landscape has turned the revenue potential upside down. So smart services like BI, Security, analytics are predicted to corner a larger share of the overall revenue pie than they did before. So what would have been a great business model 2 years ago would be a complete failure 2 years from now! Well, the galaxies of “dust”-borne data generated by networked devices will be worthless unless they can be translated into actionable business intelligence. The higher margins we see today in connectivity and network hardware will diminish and, in the future, will not be in products at all, but in data management and related services. The products will continue to exist, of course, but only as “portals” into the valuable services offerings, not as ends in themselves. Given the scale of the data and managed services opportunity one cannot help but wonder what exactly are the defining characteristics and marketplace dynamics that will drive success ….. or failure? Some of the key areas here are: Revenue Generation Revolutionary new products & services ->Creating new markets ->Changing the way the world works New Operational Efficiencies that drive down costs Workforce productivity gains ->digitization of tasks, better deployment of resources Reduced maintenance costs->predictive maintenance Material, energy savings->reduced need for product over-engineering Reduced waste-> Precision monitoring to predict and control machines Improved Customer Satisfaction Improved service levels -> fewer unplanned disruptions

5 Where is the Opportunity for Monetization…
The scale of the data and managed services opportunity is huge Margins in connectivity & network hardware will diminish while data management and related services will rise This data explosion presents opportunities to capitalise on behavior of systems and people. It gives a huge opportunity to developers to help customers / organizations by offering intelligent analytics tools and providing guidance on best practice to enable them to make the most of the data. 6 But, IoT is still a puzzle for many…
The Internet of Things is just about sensors & smart devices IoT is just machine-to-machine in another guise What will be the RoI? Why should I invest? IoT is just about “big data” & Cloud We won’t be able to handle the immense amounts of data Connected devices cannot be secured More IoT security means less user privacy Where to Start?

7 Key to Monetization - Change in the PROJECT LIFECYCLE
Strong Partner Ecosystem which covers the entire IoT Value Chain Building IoT Competencies & Frameworks Consultative Approach By investing in the Skill Development From Incubation Factories to PoCs Creating solutions that address the real world problems From PoC to Large Implementations which are Scalable, Efficient and Affordable

8 Key to Monetization - change in the BUSINESS MODEL
FROM TO One time hardware cost & AMC Prepaid & Postpaid Outsourcing Resource per month Models Per device, per month recurring fee Subscription based

9 Key to Monetization - Creation of CONSORTIUMS
Front-ending team- A single neck to choke for the Client Back to back contracts with multiple IoT Players for Professional & Managed Services
