Stiff competition This course will be quite intensive learn how to produce a substantial dissertation be a ‘Master’ in your chosen strand You will form a global network of ‘elite’ graduates You should leave here ‘fluent’ in English You may find the culture of the University to be ‘Hands Off’ You should have an enjoyable and challenging year

5 About the MSc course Following on from a tradition of running MSc’s in Computer Science since 1960 New format sees a common intake with specialization in 4 strands You will all do core subjects: Research Methods – Gaye Stephens Innovation – Dave Lewis Dissertation – Glenn Strong – he will say a few words later Strands – each of Strand coordinators will talk briefly later

Mix of core, strand-specific and other-strand options Exams (if there is one) will be held in Jan for Sem1, April/May for Sem2 No possibility to repeat – so monitor your progress and tell us if there are problems TCD Calendar – Part III summarizes assessment (50% pass mark etc.) Dissertation – get started early Glen & Gaye will explain

12 Dissertation (CS7CS5) Glenn Strong – Dissertation Coordinator
Individual research project, under the supervision of an academic Supported by Research Methods module in Semester 1 Main dissertation work over the summer, but you start now! Selection of supervisors and research areas in the next two months Research question by the end of semester one Dissertation submitted end of August Single largest piece of work in your M.Sc. (worth 33% of the overall award), important to work on it all year.

Includes: smart, interactive web applications and social platforms and the algorithmic processes which support the adaptive, decision making aspects of those systems. The research focus of this work could be in numerous areas related to Intelligent Systems, including: artificial intelligence human language understanding and generation information retrieval Personalisation data analytics knowledge engineering data engineering data ethics data governance data management
