Nationalization Comayagua was the capital of Honduras until 1880, when it was transferred to Tegucigalpa Declared independence from Spain in 1821 Mexican empire took over. In the decades of 1840 and 1850 Honduras participated in several failed attempts to restore Central American unity such as the Confederation of Central America

Expansion Mines where created as they expanded. More and More people came from Mexico and spain. An interoceanic railroad was attempted to be built until ran out of money after facing expense issues. In the 1800’s banana traders in the U.S.A found interest in Honduras's banana import. Now world’s leading export.

Modern History “The soccer war,” as they called it was a war over a soccer match between El Salvador and Honduras. The Cold War was a battle between the bordering states of Honduras. The U.S built an aircraft base in central Honduras which lead to peace in central America. Honduras had economic problems and owed millions and millions of dollars before hurricane Mitch. After the hurricane the got millions of donated money which got them out of debt.
