b. Basal surface: attached to thin adhesive sheet of glycoproteins then to fibers of connective tissue

5. Functions of key Epithelium
Simple Squamous- Used for filtration as in glomeruli of kidney
Stratified Squamous – Protection from friction as in skin
Simple cuboidal- Secrete fluids especially in exocrine glands
Ciliated Columnar- Move particles or fluids along a cavity ie: Trachea
Columnar with microvilli- absorb nutrients as in small intestine
