3 Your rights are protected
Consumer Protection Consumers are protected through Sale of Good Act (1979) and the Trade Descriptions Act (2008) Sale of Good Act makes sure business sell products that are ‘fit for purpose’ It is very powerful law It can make firms completely replace products you are no happy with, or have even the potential for faults (e.g. cars, phones) The law is instinctively on the consumers side. It is up to the producer to prove the claim is not true Trade Descriptions Act makes sure businesses do not lie. This Big Mac can be part of the five a day……stops firms from making spurious claims ‘Hmmmm Danone’ and healthy active yoghurts advertised-environmentally-friendly-diesel-cars-1

Health & Safety Protection Health & safety in the workplace Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 put the burden of responsibility on the employer, not the employee The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) prosecutes firms that contravene H&S law Video examples of H&S in the workplace and how it is managed can be found here 

8 Activities to build up great notes
Target: All done and notes finished by Friday 10th February Activities to build up great notes Review the chapter and consolidate your notes Answer questions 3, 4 and 5 from page 300 Watch two of the HSE video case studies (see link in previous slide) to look at Health and Safety in the workplace. Make brief but concise notes on these based on: What firms do to manage risk/health and safety What ideas do they employ to make sure they meet H&S rules Make sure you read the case study/ news report on VW diesel scandal (number 1 image slide 5) and also consider what the UK government might do about protecting our environment (number 2 slide 5) Type in ‘CMA fines’ into safari and look at three cases where the CMA has fined (£millions) firms. Make brief, concise notes around the following headings: What, when, why, how and who in each incidence Type in ‘VW diesel scandal’ and read three news stories (choose reputable soures e.g. Guardian, Autoexpress, nytimes.com, Telegraph, Business Insider etc on first page). Mindmap out /or make notes on what the stories – in total – tell us. Again using:
