Subject Requirements This is not just a performance based subject
Some acting and prac work will be required of everyone – not on all assessment tasks. (See Outcome 2) Stagecraft and Design Process Acting and Direction Costume, Set, Lighting, Make Up Performance PROCESS and your understanding of Theatre Styles

Set Text We don’t have one!
However, there are some subject costs involved… Theatre Performances (2 a year, minimum) I will provide photocopies of the texts we study each year

Area of Study 1 – Pre-Modern Theatre
Unit 1 – Areas of Study Area of Study 1 – Pre-Modern Theatre Explore theatre styles from before 1920. We need to explore a minimum 3 time periods. Shakespeare Restoration Realism

Pre-Modern Theatre – Outcome 1
Unit 1 – Areas of Study Pre-Modern Theatre – Outcome 1 Demonstrate your understanding of: The contexts Cultural origins Theatrical Style (conventions that make this style different from others) Use of stagecraft Performance Possibilities for texts End of Semester Exam Will cover all three theatre styles and contexts. This exam will be work 100% of your Outcome 1 result

Area of Study 2 – Interpreting Playscripts
Unit 1 – Areas of Study Area of Study 2 – Interpreting Playscripts Interpret play scripts from pre-modern era Again, we need to explore a minimum 3 time periods. Shakespeare – Midsummer Nights Dream Restoration – School for Wives Realism – A Dolls House Acting and other stagecraft to explore how to interpret these texts

Interpreting playscripts– Outcome 2
Unit 1 – Areas of Study Interpreting playscripts– Outcome 2 Demonstrate your understanding of: Processes of developing character Stagecraft can be interpreted to create meaning Role of Audience Three mini performances. Must act in one of these performances and must design in one of these performances to cover criteria. Each performance is 1/3 of your total Outcome 2 mark

Area of Study 3 – Analysing a play in performance
Unit 1 – Areas of Study Area of Study 3 – Analysing a play in performance Analysis of a professional performance. (This will involve going on excursion somewhere) Theatrical Styles Audience perspective Use of Acting and other Stagecraft

Analysing a Play in Performance – Outcome 3
Unit 1 – Areas of Study Analysing a Play in Performance – Outcome 3 Demonstrate your understanding of: Describe how meaning is constructed Performance is informed by contexts of the script Theatrical styles Use of acting Use of Stagecraft In class written analysis (test conditions). One written essay. This essay is worth 100% of your Outcome 3 mark.

Group Work focus – don’t let others down Outcomes – Will run continuously over the semester. (See next slide) Attendance – 90%

Assessment Reminders Outcome 2 – Performance and Stagecraft Designs
Three mini project Must act in one Must design in one This will run continuously through Semester 1. There will be set dates once timetable is released Outcome 3 – Performance Analysis Written Task/Essay This will run in class time after seeing the performance. Term 1 Outcome 1 – End of Semester Exam Understanding of the theatre styles – Shakespearean, Restoration and Realism This is the last Outcome to take place. Will run in Mid Semester Exams.

Failure to complete work and you lost your spot in the course Part 1 – Research a Style of choice, mini lesson when you return Part 2 – synopsis of each of the playscripts we are studying
