2. Heisler Park Project Goal: Measurably improve water quality in the nearby ASBS by incorporating low impact site design and source control principles during the reconstruction of the public park.
4 phases of project, today we are focusing on phase 1. Phases I – III shared the same design principals.

4. The innovative site design includes tilted pathways, contoured swales and terraces built with retaining walls and curbs to contain sediments (reduce bluff top erosion)and push surface flows into the treatment control BMPs.

5. Controlled access to the beach. Berms, railings, and safe access points.

6. Terraced landscaping. Enclosed garbage.

7. The treatment control best management practices (BMPs) are vegetated areas where flows will infiltrate for plant use and be filtered through vegetation to remove nutrients, trash and bacteria.

8. Water must travel over the grass prior to entering storm drain.

9. Smart timers, water efficient sprinkler heads, updated irrigation equipment and drought tolerant vegetation reduce nuisance flows by reducing on-site water waste.

10. Drought tolerant plantings. Public education.

11. Diversion unit automation (control flows via computer not in field)
Divert dry weather flows to the sanitary sewer

12. Project Details Reduced bluff erosion. Reduced water usage.
Increased Infiltration.
Continue to compile monitoring data for bacteria. Data to be included in a final project report due to the State Water Resources Control Board, Fall of 2013.
