Guidelines for the 6th Grade Greater Grand Forks Youth Football League General Practices will be held Tuesday and Thursday evenings beginning at 6:00 pm. All practices will be held at Williamson Field (Purpur Arena). Games will be held on Saturday. All Games will be played at Ulland Park in Grand forks beginning at 10:00 am. Incase of inclement weather, tune your radio to KNOX 1310 am for any announcements, check the website or call your coach. No league standings will be kept. This is an instructional league to promote proper technique, to encourage participation and to develop a sense of enjoyment in the sport. ALL PLAYERS MUST PLAY EQUAL TIME. Coaches are responsible to enforce this guideline. It is the coaches responsibility to teach all players the proper techniques to promote safe play and good sportsmanship! Weight Restriction Offensive skill position players will have a weight restriction (any offensive player that can legally advance the ball) No player who exceeds 130 pounds may carry the ball. Players who exceed this limit may advance the ball if the intercept a pass or recover a fumble. Timing of the Game Games will consist of 2 twenty minute (running time) halves with a 5 minute half time. There are 2 games each game day with a 15 minute intermission between games. If a team scores on the last play of the half or the game the extra point will be allowed and will be not counted as a play. Two coaches may be in the huddle, however, the offense must snap the ball within 30 seconds of the time the official spots the ball ready for play. There will be NO overtime. Games that end in a tie will remain that way. Game Administration A coin toss will be executed according NFHS Rules Book. There will be no kickoffs. The team that wins the toss may elect to take the ball, defend a goal, or defer to the second half. The offensive team will take possession of the ball on their own 30-yard line. First downs will be earned each time the offensive team carries, passes the ball, or advances due to a penalty of at least ten yards from the initial line of scrimmage. League rules for basic penalty yardage enforcement will follow North Dakota eleven-man rules (5 yards). For the first 3 weeks when a team decides to “punt”, the referee will move the ball 30 yards towards the defensive team’s end zone where they will take possession. If the ball is inside the 30- yard line it will be moved to the 10 yard line where the defensive team will take possession. Starting week 4, a team will Punt (kick) the ball. The opposing team will not be allowed to rush the kick. The kicking team will not be allowed to cover the punt until the ball is kicked. If the receiving team were to fumble the ball, no change of possession will take place. The receiving team is allowed to score on this play.
