Pneumatics in a nutshell
Pneumatics use pressurized gas in to power an object or cylinder The gas that is used in a pneumatic system is especially designed for the purpose its intended for. The tank is specially designed to withstand the pressure of the compressed gas A valve is used to regulate and control the flow of gas, either by pushing it in or exhausting it out

How Pneumatics Work Pneumatic systems basically use the potential energy of a compressed gas/air to create a particular movement or motion. A basic pneumatic system features a storage tank, feed lines, a two way valve and an actuator (could be a cylinder or piston). Motion happens when the compressed gas is pushed into they cylinder, and also exhausted at the other end. To close the cylinder, the complete opposite would happen.

Main Uses Steam engines use basic pneumatics (using compressed steam to push a piston to move the wheels. Robots can also incorporate pneumatics to move the robot in a variety of different ways. Pneumatic drills use compressed air to spin the drill, these are seen commonly in F1 pit lanes.
