NYC Trip! Welcome to the Broadway and the Arts Metro trip for April Your chaperones are Mr. Carder, Ms. Dernesch, and ….. Our trip is being organized through EF Tours – one of the main tour companies that SCHS deals with.

Dates of the Trip Leave: Thursday, April 13th, 2017 (night)
Return: Friday, April 21st, 2017 Back to school: Monday, April 24th There will be no school days missed ****

Flight to NYC Fly from Calgary to NYC on the red eye. (this is what we’re hoping for) Arrive in NYC where our EF tour director will meet and assist us to our bus – transfer to city centre

Itinerary Day 1 – Overnight flight to NYC. Walking tour of Midtown including stops at Rockefeller Center, Trump Tower Central Park and the Empire State Building. Day 2 – Tour Lincoln Center, meet a broadway performer, free time in Times Square and a Broadway show.

Day 3 – Guided tour of Lower Manhattan including Greenwich Village, SoHo, Chinatown, Little Italy and the World Trade Center site. Walking tour of Central Park. Day 4 – Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. Tour of Radio City Music Hall. Day 5 – Visit the Museum of Natural History, Hayden Planetarium, and the Intrepid Air and Space Museum. In the evening there will be a Harbour Lights Cruise.

Day 6 – Walking tour of Harlem, Apollo Theatre Tour, Carnegie Hall Tour, and free time at the Malcolm Shabazz Harlem Market. Off Broadway show in the evening. Day 7 – Tenement Museum Apartments, Museum of Mathematics, and a Singer and Musician workshop. Day 8 – Depart for home.

Tour Rules in General Punctuality (very crucial!)
Curfew (stricly adhered to) Alcohol (none) Drug Possession (none) Health (make good choices – eating, sleeping, etc…)

School Travel Policy Students must demonstrate that they are in good standing at Springbank High School, the greater community and school sponsored events. Students in good standing: Participate in class Attend school regularly Complete assignments Avoid discipline infractions ie: alcohol , drugs, defiance and vandalism Respect self and others. Students will adhere to these policies before, during and upon return from school trips

Health Concerns As this trip can be very grueling (many walking tours), participants must fully disclose any health problems, there will be health forms to fill out. NYC does not require a special series of immunizations, but it is good to make sure students are up to date on their basics, such as tetanus, etc.

Price The price for this trip is $3830, based on 35 – 39 students.
An initial non-refundable deposit of $275 is due to us upon enrollment. This includes the EF deposit of $200, mandatory Rocky View travel insurance, and various things such as medical kits, etc…

Price cont… The balance is to be paid to EF over the next 6 months ($ / month). EF will accept manual or automatic payment plans. Parents will contact EF directly and set this up. We will provide this information at the end of the session.

What is Included? 8 day tour Round trip airfare
7 overnight stays in hotels Motor coach transfers to and from airport; Metro card Breakfasts (voucher) and dinner daily 1 full time Bilingual tour director + local guides 1 Broadway show, 1 off-Broadway show Ferry to Statue of Liberty RVS Insurance Entrance to all museums, theatres, etc…

What is not Included in Cost
Lunches (approx.) $10 - $20/daily Spending money $? Baggage Fee (est. $25 + tax each way, CAD outbound and USD on return). As not every student will want to check luggage, we will deal with this on an individual basis. Most likely we will collect the money ahead of time from those that are wanting to do this. Passport fees.

Passport Information Your child’s passport should be up to date and must not expire 6 months from date of departure. We leave April 14th and return April 21st therefore, your passport must not expire before October 21, 2017!

Next Meeting – Forms and Expectations
We we will meet in late October / early November to provide updates, hand out forms, and go over trip expectations. Contract Agreement for Travel - asap Medical Form - asap Copies of Passport, AHC and Birth Certificate - asap Notarized Statement – within 90 days of departure

Final Meeting We will meet one last time 1-2 months prior to the trip.
Hotel and flight info will be provided at that time. We’ll collect the baggage fee and do the notarized forms (if that hasn’t been done prior) Talk about what to pack, spending $$$, etc.
