Who What is ted? TECHNOLOGY-Education-Design: “Ideas worth Spreading”
TED is a nonpartisan nonprofit devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful talks. TED began in 1984 as a conference where Technology, Entertainment and Design converged, and today covers almost all topics — from science to business to global issues — in more than 110 languages. Most talks are 4-18 minutes long I LOVE LOVE LOVE Ted (my husband knows this…)

I’ve seen some incredible things
super hydrophobic molecules –mark Shaw’s Very Dry Presentation The discovery of DNA, aspirin, secret texts, 2,00o year old climates… Latif Nasser (Pain Medicine) New tests designed by CHILDREN to identify and treat cancers -- Jack Andraka Amazing (AMAZING) spoken word poetry --Shane Koyczan (Bullying) and Sarah Kay are awesome! Museums that break the boundaries of my definition of “museum” --Museum of 4 in the Morning, Jason Taylor (Underwater) Presentations that left me asking, “How did they do that?” -- marco Tempest is my favorite, Mick Mountz, (warehouses) , Sean Follmer (Shape-shifting Technology), Lots of motivational programs to inspire and encourage –Andrew Solomon , Ed Gavagan (knots & Surgeons), Ken Robinson (education) Other: beautiful, funny, captivating, marvelous mini movies –Julia Sweeney, Alexa meade, Gavin Pretor- Pinney, Jennifer Lee (Hunt for General tsao)

PLayPosit /Educanon PlayPosit is an easy-to-use tool that lets teachers add interactivity to streaming video content from popular sites like YouTube, LearnZillion, TeacherTube, and Vimeo, among a number of others. Edcanon is a free service that is designed to help educators flip their classrooms by adding interactive questions to videos from YouTube, Vimeo, and Teacher Tube. It has a lot of potential to help teachers improve flipped lessons and it's incredibly easy to use.

What I hope You’ll Remember
You are more powerful than you think (to impact a curriculum or to impact a child) Children are more capable than you (or they) imagine We spend a lot of time trying to build up students: don’t forget to take time to find ways to inspire yourself: look for something beautiful everyday Ted might be a valuable resource to engage and motivate you and your students
