1. Washoe County Rain Gauge Network: Continued Operation Plan and Historical Data Analysis
Western Regional Climate Center (WRCC) personnel: Dan McEvoy, Greg McCurdy, and Albert Wolff
Tasks:
Network monitoring and maintenance (McCurdy and Wolff)
WRCC to assist and eventually take over collection and maintenance of the Network
Network historical data analysis
Thorough QA/QC of historical data
Compare Network data to PRISM and other gridded data
Detailed record keeping of collection/empty dates allows for comparison to daily data products

2. Network Historical Data Analysis
Small number of stations currently used to generate PRISM
Network data can be used to improve:
Groundwater recharge estimates
Flood frequency analysis and curves
PRISM estimates and general spatial patterns of precipitation in Washoe County
Estimates of the hydrologic cycle and water balance
Continued monitoring will allow for future precipitation trend analysis and generation of better climatology for Washoe County
Valuable for validation of downscaled global climate models used in climate change analysis
