5. The Star
Look at the badge on your blazer- how many points are on the star?

6. The Colours The colours on the badge are:
Red- reminds us of the love of Jesus; we should show this love to others.
Gold- the colour of light; we should let our Christian faith shine brightly.
Black- the black background serves to make our talents shine all the more brightly.

7. The Bible There are 66 books in the Bible.
The Bible is divided into the Old and the New Testament.
Some Christians believed that God inspired the bible writers to write the bible; this is called inspiration.
There are four Gospels; Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.
A Gospel writer is called an Evangelist.

8. The Dead Sea Scrolls
The Dead Sea Scrolls were found in 1947 by a young shepherd boy.
He was searching for a stray goat near the Dead Sea, thirteen miles east of Jerusalem.
He picked up a stone and threw it in one of the openings of a cave to see if the goat would come out.
Instead he heard the sound of breaking pottery.
He was scared and ran away.

9. The Dead Sea Scrolls The nest day he returned with his cousin.
Inside they found many jars of old pottery.
The jars were 21 inches high and just over 9 inches wide.
They contained scrolls that looked like rolls of wallpaper; they were fragile and easily broke into tiny pieces.
Experts examined them and found they were parts of the Hebrew Scripture.
They became known as Dead Sea Scrolls and are extremely important for scholars.

10. Advent The word Advent means ‘coming’.
Advent is a time of preparation for Christians for the birth of Jesus.
Advent marks the beginning of the Catholic Church’s year.
The candles of the Advent Wreath are purple, pink and white.

11. Sacraments in the Catholic Church?
There are SEVEN sacraments in the Catholic Church.
Baptism,
Confession,
Holy Communion,
Confirmation,
Marriage,
Holy Orders,
Sick

12. Sacraments
Baptism; a sacrament of initiation- welcomes people into Church.
First Confession; reminds us of times we haven’t loved God and other and fixes our relationship with God.
Holy Communion; reminds us of the sacrifice that Jesus made when he died on the cross. We receive Jesus and this gives us strength to continue our Christian journey.

15. The Baptism of Jesus Jesus was baptised by John the Baptist.
It happened in the River Jordan.
When he came out of the water the heavens opened.
The Holy Spirit came down on him like a dove.
A voice from heaven said, “You are my Son- with you I am well pleased.”
The Baptism was a turning point in Jesus’ ministry.

17. Discipleship A disciple is a follower of Jesus; a learner.
Qualities of a good disciple; prayerful, honest, trustworthy, faithful, loyal etc.
A disciple does many things; puts others before himself, accepts suffering, willing to die for their faith, leaves everything and follows immediately, puts God before money.

18. Call of the first four disciples
Jesus was walking along the Sea of Galilee
He saw Simon and his brother Andrew.
They were casting their nets as they were fishermen
Jesus said, “Come follow me and I will make you fishers of men”.
Then He saw James and John the sons of Zebedee.
They were mending their nets and left IMMEDIATELY to follow Jesus.

19. Oscar Romero
Óscar Romero was a bishop of the Catholic Church in El Salvador.
He became the fourth Archbishop of San Salvador.
He spoke out against poverty, social injustice, assassinations and torture.
In 1997, Pope John Paul II bestowed upon him the title of Servant of God.
Romero was assassinated while offering Mass in 1980.
He followed Jesus request to put others before yourself and served the needs of the needy.
He accepted his cross or suffering and laid down his life for the message of the Gospel. 

20. Maximilian Kolbe
Saint Maximilian Maria Kolbe, was a Polish Franciscan friar.
He volunteered to die in place of a stranger in the Nazi German death camp of Auschwitz during World War II.
He gave up life for others and this was him accepting his cross as Jesus asked.
He served others putting them before himself.
John Paul II declared him "The Patron Saint of Our Difficult Century".
Kolbe was canonized on 10 October 1982 by Pope John Paul II, and declared a martyr of charity.

21. What is a parable?
A parable is a short story with a hidden meaning or moral.
A parable requires us to make a change in our lives and become more Christian.
Jesus used parables to teach about the Kingdom of God as they were easy to understand.

22. The Parable of the Sower
Some seed fell on the path- the birds came and devoured it.
Some fell on rocky ground and immediately it sprang up- the sun rose and it was scorched and withered away.
Some fell among the thorns- the thorns grew up and chocked it- it yielded no grain.
Some fell on good soil and produced grain, growing up and increasing and yielding thirtyfold and sixtyfold and a hundredfold."

23. Meaning of the Parable
Some people are like seed along the PATH- as soon as they hear it, SATAN comes and takes away.
ROCKY places- hear the word and at once receive it with joy. But since they have no root they quickly fall away- times of trouble.
THORNS- hear the word but the WORRIES of this life (money etc) choke the word, making it unfruitful.
GOOD SOIL- hear the word, ACCEPT it, and produce a crop—some thirty, some sixty, some a hundred times what was sown.”

24. Parable of the Lost Sheep
The shepherd has 100 sheep.
When the shepherd finds the missing sheep he calls his friends and neighbours and celebrates.
This parable teaches us that God will always reach out to sinners and try and bring them back to him.
The Lost Son has a similar meaning- God will meet us half way after we have sinned if we are sorry. We must make the first move but God will always forgive us.

25. Parable of Seed Growing Secretly
This parable teaches us that:
Nobody knows how a person’s faith grows within them.
Jesus’ teaching will grow and spread until the end when God gathers the harvest.
Encourages readers suffering from persecution that the Kingdom of God is coming.
