2. Brainstorm:
Zoe jogs every morning. She notices that the sun also rises every morning. She collects the following data: She concludes that the sun rises because she jogs. Is this a reasonable conclusion?
What is wrong with Zoe’s conclusion? What should she do differently in her experiment to fix this? (Or, what would you do to disprove her conclusion?)
Have her NOT jog one day and see that the sun still rises.

3. Control Group: A separate group in which you do not use the IV
Shows what would have happened under “normal” conditions
After the experiment, we can compare our results to our control to see if the IV actually had any effect

4. Control Groups:
Zoe adds a control group to her investigation. How does this change her data? How does this change her conclusion?

7. Control Group vs Controlled Variables
Amanda wants to see if watching Sesame Street helps young children learn their ABC’s. She takes a group of 20 four-year olds and has them watch 1 hour of Sesame Street each day. After 1 year, she tests them to see if they can say their ABC’s.
CVs: Control Group:
Underline IV, Circle DV. Compare CVs and control groups.

8. STATIONS: Our Unit Test is TOMORROW!
The problems at each station are the SAME TYPES of problem of that you will see on your test. So, this is a great opportunity to test yourself and see if you feel prepared.
If you finish a station early, please work on your study guide!
