Cultures of Barbe Teacher’s Name: Lyndsey LeBlanc REDEFINITION
GLEs and Standards Covered (Include Descriptions): Use technology when appropriate to enhance laboratory investigations and presentations of findings (SI-H-A3). Plan and record step-by step procedures for a valid investigation, select equipment and materials, and identify variables and controls (SI-H-A2). Student will conduct an investigation that includes multiple trials and record organize and display data appropriately. Task Overview Learning Objective(s) Suggested Technology Students will make a slide to analyze under a microscope, using the cultures they grew. Students will use an IPAD to take a picture of the microscope view of the cells. Students will then upload their pictures to a blackboard discussion forum for the class to analyze and predict what type of cells are present. Use technology when appropriate to enhance laboratory investigations and presentations of findings (SI-H-A3). Microscope iPads Blackboard Discussion Forum Device with internet access Use Easy Measure to measure the growth of their culture at different time frames. Easy Measure app iPad camera Students will play Kahoot to review the materials needed to complete the experiment. Plan and record step-by step procedures for a valid investigation, select equipment and materials, and identify variables and controls (SI-H-A2). Internet-connected device Kahoot: Student will watch a video on plate streaking using EdPuzzle. Student will conduct an investigation that includes multiple trials and record organize and display data appropriately. EdPuzzle video: REDEFINITION Technology allows for the creation of new tasks that were previously not conceivable. transformation MODIFICATION Technology allows for significant task redesign.. AUGMENTATION Technology acts as a direct tool for substitution with some functional improvement. enhancement SUBSTITUTION Technology acts as a direct tool for substitution with no real change.

Kahoot Review of Lab Equipment
Students will use kahoot to review the materials they will use to complete the experiment. AUGMENTATION Technology acts as a direct tool for substitution with some functional improvement. Grab a laptop or iPad to work on. Create 2 review questions on the topics given to your group by Ms. LeBlanc. Add questions within the kahoot game under the Biology class log in. Once all groups are done, game will be played as a large class activity. This task uses: Kahoot Review Game Learning Objective(s): Plan and record step-by step procedures for a valid investigation, select equipment and materials, and identify variables and controls (SI-H-A2). TEACHER NOTES: Teacher’s name/ Lyndsey LeBlanc/ School: Barbe High School Louisiana State Standard: SI-H-A2 Grade Level/Subject: Biology Special Directions/Considerations: Activity Evaluation: Self evaluation based on Kahoot results. Prerequisites for students: Students need to be able to differentiate between lab equipment.

Technology acts a direct substitute, with no functional improvement
Streaking a Plate Students will learn how to create a T- streak by watching a video on Edpuzzle. SUBSTITUTION Technology acts a direct substitute, with no functional improvement Go to Ms. LeBlanc’s Biology Blackboard site. Click on the Notes Tab. Click on the Edpuzzle link labeled Plate Streaking. Watch the video on Edpuzzle. Pick 3 different locations to swab around campus. Then utilize the skills you learned in the video to create your own cultures. This task uses: Edpuzzle Link Learning Objective(s): Student will conduct an investigation that includes multiple trials and record organize and display data appropriately. TEACHER NOTES: Teacher’s name/ Lyndsey LeBlanc/ School: Barbe High School Louisiana State Standard: SI-H-A2 Grade Level/Subject: Biology Special Directions/Considerations: Activity Evaluation: Correct application of skill set. Prerequisites for students: Working knowledge of lab equipment.

M Growth of Cultures Use Easy Measure to measure the growth of their culture at different time frames. MODIFICATION Technology allows for significant task redesign. Take your culture out of the incubator daily for 3 consecutive days. On the iPad display screen, select the Easy Measure app to measure the growth of your culture. Compare and Contrast the colony growth each day. This task uses: IPAD Camera Easy Measure app Learning Objective(s): Use technology when appropriate to enhance laboratory investigations and presentations of findings (SI-H-A3). TEACHER NOTES: Teacher’s name/ Lyndsey LeBlanc/ School: Barbe High School Louisiana State Standard: SI-H-A3 Grade Level/Subject: Biology Special Directions/Considerations: Activity Evaluation: Students record growth in Experiment packet. Prerequisites for students: Students need to be able to use the easy measure application.

R Taking a Look Take your culture out of the incubator.
Make a slide to analyze under a microscope, using the cultures they grew. Use an iPAD to take a picture of the microscope view of the cells. Upload your pictures to a Blackboard Discussion forum for the class to analyze and predict what type of cells are present. REDEFINITION Technology allows for the creation of new tasks that were previously not conceivable. This task uses: Take your culture out of the incubator. Create a slide from your culture to analyze under a microscope. Focus the microscope on the cells. Use an iPad to take a picture of the microscope view of your cells. Go to Ms. LeBlanc’s Biology Blackboard site. Then click on the Notes tab to access the thread labeled Barbe’s Bacteria. Upload your picture of each culture your group grew to the blackboard discussion forum labeled Barbe’s Bacteria. Respond to two other groups pictures making a prediction of what type of cell they grew within their culture. (hint: can be more than one) Microscope IPAD Camera Blackboard Discussion Forum Learning Objective(s): Use technology when appropriate to enhance laboratory investigations and presentations of findings (SI- H-A3). TEACHER NOTES: Teacher’s name/ Lyndsey LeBlanc/ School: Barbe High School Louisiana State Standard: SI-H-A3 Grade Level/Subject: Biology Special Directions/Considerations: Activity Evaluation: Students are evaluated based on rubric for discussion forum. Prerequisites for students: Students need a conceptual framework for differentiating living cells.
