5 Literacy: The 4th grade team uses “The Daily Five” model to teach literacy. Read to Self Read to Someone Listen to Reading Work on Writing Word Work

6 Why Daily Five? Research-based best practice Students have choice
Students show ownership in their learning. These skills lead to independence in literacy Literacy instruction is focused on: - Comprehension - Fluency - Accuracy Expanding Vocabulary

7 Literacy Small Groups:
Guided Reading Groups: Strategy Groups: Are determined by student’s reading level. Students will read the same book and work on various skills together. Determined by a particular skill or objective. Reading levels within the group will vary. Students will be reading different books, but working on a similar skill. * In both settings, groups will change regularly to meet student needs.

Multiply up to 4-digit by 1-digit; and 2-digit by 2-digit Divide up to 4-digit dividends & 1-digit divisors with & without remainders Solve multi-step word problems. Find perimeter and area of rectangles Represent algebraic relationships with models, drawings, and symbols

20 Tips for Parents: Check your child’s planner nightly.
Teachers use this to communicate with you. Students keep track of assignments & HW. Check Friday Folders each week. Return to school each Monday. Make sure your child has a quiet place to complete HW and reading each night.

22 Report Cards & Grading:
Report cards go home at the end of each nine weeks. Eagle Reports go home halfway through each quarter. 1st Eagle Report – Wednesday, Sept. 25 1st Report Card – Monday, Nov. 4 Students will receive a proficiency level of 1, 2, 3 or 4 on their report card. These are standards-based.
