Make them your outward exhibition and inward motivation.
Proverbs 3:3-4 “Let not mercy and truth forsake you; bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart, and so find favor and high esteem in the sight of God and man.” Make them your outward exhibition and inward motivation. This is what people should see when they look at you and how you should look at people.
12
Proverbs 3:3-4 “Let not mercy and truth forsake you; bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart, and so find favor and high esteem in the sight of God and man.” Mercy and Truth - Other versions “Love and faithfulness” NIV, “Love and loyalty” The Message, “Kindness and truth” NASB, (Using different English words to try and describe the depth in the Hebrew which reads we·’ĕ·meṯ ḥe·seḏ (from right to left).).
13
Review Part Three: Hesed Brings Favor
14
Mercy- Hesed ḥe·seḏ Is one of the richest and most meaningful words in the Old Testament. The simple meaning is “favor”. It is lovingkindness in action. But it is ever so much more.
15
Mercy- Hesed “What “grace” is to the New Testament, “Hesed” is to the Old Testament. Hesed is covenant loyalty – it is what the Old Testament was supposed to be about. Although it was the foundation of theology and ethics, it was too often lost in ritualism and rules. It was too often forsaken in the pursuit of self and cast aside in the life of sin.” Pastor Mark Schwarzbauer
16
Mercy- Hesed Hesed is translated as mercy, unfailing love, covenant loyalty, steadfast love, lovingkindness, grace, compassion. Hesed is more than a characteristic, it is an active way of life to “Tikkun olam” or repair the world. God wants to repair your world through you living hesed.
17
Proverbs 3:3-4 “Let not mercy and truth forsake you; bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart, and so find favor and high esteem in the sight of God and man.” Make hesed your outward exhibition and inward motivation. BUT ALSO INCLUDE we·’ĕ·meṯ

EMET – FAITHFUL & TRUE Family Worship Center Pastor Mark Schwarzbauer PhD
20
EMET Brings Favor In the Hebrew/Christian word for “Truth” God is the center and not man (meaning you).
21
EMET Brings Favor
22
Aleph is the first letter of the Alephbet and represents the breath of God or our awareness of Him. Therefore, truth begins with our awareness of God
23
The middle letter Mem in Hebrew was originally the symbol for water and is also understood to represent the Messiah. In Mem the Hebrew sees divine wisdom from the fountain of life itself which is God, the creator and king of the heavens and the earth is the center of truth.
24
The final letter of EMET is Tav which is the last letter of the Alephbet. Tav is seen at the expression of simple faith to the Hebrew. This letter corresponds to the kingdom as given to us in Torah or Scriptures
25
EMET Brings Favor God alone represents or determines what TRUTH is.
Therefore it is not what you or I think but what God thinks that is TRUTH. Sociologists describe our culture as “post truth” (Oxford 2016 word of the year). We are in this unstable “post truth” because we have moved away from God, who is truth.
26
The letters אמת are “stable” “reliable” and therefore FAITHFUL!
EMET Brings Favor The letters אמת are “stable” “reliable” and therefore FAITHFUL!
27
Bind Emet around your neck and write it on your heart.
EMET Brings Favor Bind Emet around your neck and write it on your heart.
28
EMET Brings Favor We must accept that God alone determines what is true, and we must be committed to truth. This starts by making Christ the center of your life. We must be committed to reading His Word the Bible and apply it in our lives.
29
EMET Brings God’s Favor
You are lining up with His moral image – looking like Father. You are honoring Him and His Word. You are fulfilling His purpose to repair the world.
30
EMET Brings Man’s Favor
Society is “post truth”. But people desperately still want the truth. Example- buying a car. Example - Buying a gallon of gas- getting a cup. They will highly esteem you if they can trust you.
