Opportunity to earn college credit
Grades 7-12 College-ready students Many college course options Public colleges are free Private colleges may include small cost RHS will include a $40 fee

Why take College Credit Plus?
Take college courses that satisfy your high school graduation requirements If you have completed your high school graduation requirements and want to begin college work You want to explore college and take a course in a subject that interests you or is not available at your high school Get a head start on a college degree

Process to take part in CCP
Receive information/counseling on risks and benefits of CCP Complete a Letter of Intent form by March 31, 2017 You can submit this tonight Apply to the college where you plan to take courses Take placement tests as required by the college Meet with your HS counselor and college advisor to determine which courses you plan to take Register for college courses and adjust high school schedule if necessary

College Credit Plus Includes all dual enrollment options
College courses taken at RHS (Calculus, Climate/Weather) Marketing/DECA and other Penta programs Courses taken at participating universities, whether online or on campus

Are you ready for college courses?
College-readiness is determined by the college Through the application process and placement testing GPA requirements set by the college Students may be required to take placement testing to help determine what courses they can take Even if a student is academically eligible it doesn’t guarantee they will be successful Maturity Self-discipline

Student Choice Students can choose any course that applies toward a degree or workforce certification at a public or participating private college May be for enrichment or to start a degree program Many Penta programs include workforce certifications that may be included in CCP Penta students should coordinate CCP classes with the Penta counselor, Mrs. Zilba, and with the HS. Penta students may need to complete this process through Penta also

Graduate with College Credit
Students can earn up to 30 college credit hours per academic year Includes both college and hs courses 1 HS credit = 3 college credits Going over the limit could incur fees – keep HS informed! Students can earn no more than 120 college credit hours while in the program College grades may be weighted College courses must be weighted the same as Honors or Advanced Placement in the same subject area

Find the College and Courses that Fit
Students will have options on courses Work with your hs counselor and college advisor to make the most of your choices Colleges have prepared sample pathways or examples of courses that students may want to consider Pathways are suggestions to help you choose, but other courses can be considered

Students can consider…
A combination of courses that may be taught here and additional courses through participating universities, which may include: Calculus (University of Findlay- taught at RHS) Weather and Climate (Owens CC-taught at RHS) History of the Viet Nam War (BGSU – taught at RHS) Marketing/Business courses(Owens-taught at RHS) Other college courses that may be added Online or courses taken on campus

SUMMER SESSION CLASSES
Students can take courses during summer sessions beginning as early as this summer Summer term will apply as the 1st term of the next school year A college’s summer term often begins in May. There may be multiple sessions within a summer term. Meet with your HS counselor as this will effect your schedule for the rest of the school year Counts as part of the 30 credit hour limit

Books and Fees Students attending a public college do not pay for either books or fees Students attending a private college may have some fees Books must be purchased through the university bookstore (online purchases will not be reimbursed) Books will be the property of the HS and will need to be returned to the guidance office once the course is completed Student covers parking expenses if there are any

Failing or Withdrawing
If you fail a college class, you will most likely be charged for the expense of the course If you withdraw from a course beyond college deadlines, typically in the first two weeks of the semester, you will most likely be charged for withdrawal fees Failing and withdraw grades as reported on the college transcript will be included on your hs transcript Could potentially jeopardize college opportunities and financial aid Could potentially jeopardize high school graduation Could impact your hs and college gpa

And once again, Grades… The grade you earn in a college course is applied to your high school gpa and to your college gpa If the course is part of your graduation requirements, it may affect your hs graduation Grades may impact your standing at the college or any colleges you may later apply to Your grades may affect athletic eligibility

CCP Scheduling Work with RHS counselor before registering to determine how college courses will be evaluated for RHS graduation requirements Meet with your college advisor to register for classes RHS students must take a reasonable course load equivalent to at least five or six hs courses.

CCP and sports Student-athletes selecting to participate in CCP must be certain that 1. The faculty members at the college understand that they will need to provide grades or a progress report at the time when the high school’s quarter grading period is over 2. The student-athlete is taking enough post-secondary course work exclusively or between the college and the high school combined to be equivalent to five one-credit courses

Is ccp a good fit? Balance schedule between HS & College (budget time)
Should be both academically and socially self-disciplined - This is especially true for younger students Students may be attending college classes with students aged years and may encounter mature topics in some courses Student/parents responsible for transportation and parking fees (Families that meet District guidelines may request assistance for transportation fees)

Is ccp a good fit? Schedule conflicts with extra-curricular activities at RHS (sports, drama, etc.) Conflicts in school-year calendar Extra study time for college classes Personal supplies (calc., camera, tools, etc.) are students’ responsibility Help for college classes may not be available at RHS. Services are offered at colleges

Letter of Intent Students/Parents should complete a Letter of Intent form by March 31st This is not a commitment to take college courses, but is required for the program Submit a new Letter of Intent each year Any late submissions will have to be approved by our superintendant Can be completed and submitted tonight The Letter of Intent is not your college application – you will still need to go through the application process!

Review of Process March 31st – turn in Letter of Intent
Apply to a college or complete an application as part of taking a course at RHS Take placement testing if needed/required Meet with your HS counselor to discuss potential courses and to look at your high school schedule Meet with college advisor to choose and schedule courses Submit your college schedule to your HS counselor
