To start off your body paragraphs, you should always begin with a topic sentence. This sentence is a statement that introduces the reader to the claim you are about to make.
For example, if I’m writing an essay about why dogs are better than cats, I might start off my first body paragraph like this: It is commonly known that dog is man’s best friend.

In our case, argument is just another word for claim. When you are writing a paper, the argument is the main point you are making in the paragraph. Arguments are supposed to prove your thesis.
It is commonly known that dog is man’s best friend. Not only do dogs help their owners feel good about themselves, but they make other people feel better too.

Now that you’ve made a claim you’ll need to support that claim. You should include quotes from the articles you have read or the research you may do.
