The November 2016 election added four new states to the list those legalizing recreational use, most notably California.

Who Partakes? Gallop Poll Shows Marijuana Use Nearly Doubled Since 2013
The percentage of uses is still small, but growing by leaps and bounds.

Wine Sales in Colorado Since Recreational Legalization
Excise Taxes Collected on Wine Sales (Colorado Department of Revenue) 1.5% DECREASE from 2012 to 2013 4.6% INCREASE 2013 to 2014 2.2% INCREASE 2014 to 2015 3.1% INCREASE 2015-August 2016 More people are using cannabis, but that hasn’t hurt wine sales. Exise taxes paid on wine sales in Colorado have been increasing each calendar year since 2013.

U.S. Marijuana User Demographics
12% of men and 7% of women say they use marijuana. 9% of users have annual income of $75K and up. 11% are college graduates. 19% are age (Millennials). 9% are age 30 to 49. Pot users are primarily men. The largest age group of users is – Millennials.

U.S. Wine Drinker Demographics
37% of American adults drink wine. 56% of wine drinkers are women. Adults age accounted for 42% of all wine consumption in the U.S in 2015. By comparison, most wine drinkers are women, and 42% are Millennials.

Some are even saying: Will people really switch from wine to pot? Probably not, but they may add it to the mix as it becomes more mainstream and legal in more places.

Is California ready for cannabis tourism, promotion and marketing?
Competition from the cannabis industry isn’t only about labor, water and land. It’s also about tourmism. Tour companies, industry associations and marketing companies are working to change pot’s image from counter-culture to mainstream. Cannabis Industry PR & Marketing
