Geographic Location Savannah grasslands are located near the equator, between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn. They cover much of Africa as well as large areas of Australia, South America, and India. Temperate grasslands are located in the veldts of Africa, the pampas of South America, the steppes of Eurasia, and the plains of North America.

Plant Life in Savannah Grasslands
Plants in the Savannah grasslands are made for enduring drought. They have long roots or tap roots so that they can reach the deep water table. There are many different types of grasses in the Savannah Grasslands that includes: red oats grass star grass, elephant grass, lemon grass Trees pine trees palm trees umbrella acacia trees willow trees

Plant Life in Temperate Grasslands
With underground stems and buds, grasses are not easily destroyed by fire. This helps them survive the dry season. Species of grasses purple needle grasses wild oats foxtails ryegrass buffalo grass. Shrubs and trees that live in the Temperate Grasslands are not as good at cooping with the flames as grasses are, so they are usually destroyed by the fire. Flowers asters wildflowers blazing stars Goldenrods sunflowers Clovers wild indigos

Animal Life in Savannah Grasslands
Animal life in the Savannah Grasslands include giraffes, zebras, kangaroos, mice, moles, gophers, ground squirrels, snakes, ungulates, and etc. The antelopes are especially diverse include eland, impalas, gazelles Oryx, gerenuk and kudu. Wildebeest plains zebra rhinos, giraffes Elephants warthogs are among other herbivores of the African savanna. Carnivores Lions Leopards Cheetahs Jackals wild dogs hyenas.

Animal Life in Temperate Grasslands
The dominant vertebrates in Temperate Grasslands are herbivorous or plant-eating grazers called ungulates. Ungulates are mammals with hoofs, like horses and deer. Their long legs help them run fast to escape grassland predators. Animals Buffalo Antelope Birds Gophers prairie dogs Coyotes insects. On the steppes you’ll find similar animals to the Great Plains including lynx, antelopes, falcons, and fox.
7
Climate Dry Season They have distinct dry seasons (which is in the winter) The Savannah grasslands get all of their rain in the summer During the dry season most of the plants die Streams and rivers also dry up in the dry season Animals migrate to find food
8
Climate cont. Wet Season Plants are lush in the wet season
Rivers and streams flow freely The animals move back to graze on the grasslands

Fun Facts Grasslands are also known as prairies, pampas, steppes, and savannas Grasslands are usually considered the transitional biome. Meaning that they are usually found between deserts and forests in rainfall Less than 8 percent of all grasslands worldwide are protected. The lowest protection of any biome on earth is temperate grasslands, at less than 1 percent Periodic fires, whether they are human induced or occur spontaneously, are very important to the grassland to ensure that invasive plants do not take over Twenty-five percent of the Earth is covered by the grassland biome
