26 Fee Waivers (p. 3) If student is eligible, fee waivers are available for both SAT and ACT. Eligibility form can be picked up in Student Services. If waiver is used for SAT during senior year, student also qualifies for up to 4 college application fee waivers.

27 Wake Tech (Pgs 3-4) Earn an Associate Degree or Certificate or enter into their College Transfer Program Accuplacer Test-Everyone must take for placement into classes. Certain ACT/SAT scores may waive the test; see counselor or contact Wake Tech for more details. Remember to apply early to secure a spot! For Fall 2018, apply immediately after first semester.

See this page for instructions on requesting transcripts for in-state and out-of-state colleges and universities. The student (not the counselor) is responsible for sending transcript electronically. Please don’t wait until the application deadline to submit the request! Some colleges may require students to upload a copy of their unofficial transcript.

30 Where Do You Stand? (Pg 5) Review the freshman profiles of NC colleges and universities from the high school class of 2017. These GPA’s, SAT scores, and ACT scores are AVERAGES. Many accepted students had lower (and higher) numbers than indicated here. GPA’s may vary by major or program for each college or university.

31 General Tips for College Admission
Check academic requirements for admission Minimum GPA? Required courses? (fine arts, world language, etc.) Make sure the STUDENT completes the application (not the parent) Determine if additional materials are needed (teacher recommendation form, counselor form, etc.)

Review testing requirements (SAT? ACT? SAT Subject Tests? CLEP?) Make sure your course schedule is finalized for the ENTIRE SCHOOL YEAR before submitting your application. Submit application several days prior to the application deadline. Ask multiple people (peers, parents, teachers) to review your application.

The College Board recommends applying to four colleges. Use your best judgement.

34 When To Apply Check college admissions deadlines
Some colleges may give preference to early applicants; check with your colleges of interest Many colleges will consider students for certain merit scholarships if they apply by the first or second deadline Receiving a decision before March is ideal for most students Check deadlines for applying to Honors Colleges, special learning communities, etc.

Early Decision: usually binding (you must attend the college if you are admitted) Early Admission: allows you to receive a decision more quickly Rolling Admission: the college accepts applications throughout the year Deferral: the college needs more information (first semester grades, test scores, etc.) before an admissions decision can be made Wait List: the student will be admitted IF there is room remaining in the freshman class Denial

41 IMPORTANT! Many colleges will only consider you for merit scholarships if you apply by their first admissions deadline. Check with your colleges of interest to determine their policies for merit scholarship selection. Some colleges have a separate merit scholarship application (usually available on their financial aid webpage). Some colleges may require you to fill out the CSS/Financial Aid Profile in addition to the FAFSA

42 College Visits Many college representatives visit CHS during lunch in the gym lobby. Listen to second period announcements for info! Seniors are allowed one college visit per semester. See attendance office for additional information. Advance paperwork must be completed. College Fair (p. 6)
