Activities A full timetable of activities is arranged every day including evening activities. The children line up at the numbered posts. All-weather activity zone 3D swing High ropes course Indoor and outdoor climbing facilities Archery ranges Fencing studio Abseiling towers Zipwire. We stop off at a Sealife centre called Nausicaa in Boulogne on our way out to break up the journey and so they begin to experience French language. The activities at the Chateau include climbing, abseiling, zip wire, canoeing, raft building, assault course, archery, rifles, film making (a drama activity where they make their own), initiative exercises, town trail and orienteering. To enable the children to see French life outside the chateau we take them to the local town or market, a chocolate factory and a real, working goat farm where she speaks very slowly in French and then demonstrates how to make cheese. The evening activities include Chateau olympics, scavenger hunt, orienteering and disco. It is an activity holiday and therefore they WILL get wet and they will get muddy. They will need plenty of old clothes and trainers that you are happy to get ruined!

Groups Two coaches. Blue and yellow. The children will find out who is leading their day group and which coach they are on before we go. Red Hill staff are assigned a day group to lead, they stay with the children during activities. Day groups are mixed- they will contain both boys and girls and a mix of children from across the 4 classes. Day groups have 15 children in them. Children will get the opportunity in September to choose a child that they would like to be part of both their day and bedroom. This ensures that the children have someone they know well/trust as part of their groups. The overall group leader is not assigned a group of children, so is available to support across all groups at all times.

Health and safety Risk assessment is completed and agreed by the headteacher. All leaders in Kingswood have qualifications relevant to the activities they are in charge of. School staff will always be present during activities. Children must behave in a safe and acceptable way. If your child has additional needs including medical please come and speak to me as soon as possible so we can plan how to meet their needs while away. We supervise them closely around centre – remain as group – as group leader I’ll keep overall supervision – all children are told in the eventuality they do get separated to stay with one of the other group leaders or with site staff so at least they’re safe. We accompany each group – no child allowed to participate in activity if they have missed briefing either because they weren’t there on time or because of poor behaviour.
