1 Piaget and Skinner Liv and Ells

2 What does Skinner say? Skinner
- All learning can be shaped by the environment. - Cats were able to learn the skills to escape as they were aware that their was a reward.

3 What does Piaget say? Piaget
- Constructivists approach- he suggested that children construct or build up their thoughts according to their experiences of the world around them. -Piaget believe that children use their thoughts to make conclusions, and he called this a schema.

4 How does Skinner relate to creativity
Skinners theory of operant conditioning links to children’s creativity, as children are able to create and produce something that reflects their own image, thoughts or feelings. This then works as a reward for the child as he/she is able to feel a sense of accomplishment, through being creative. Skinner also looks at how the environment can influence children. It could be suggested that Skinner is implying that the things that children have observed their surroundings could provide them with ideas or thoughts that they can then display through creativity.

5 How does Piaget relate to creativity
Piaget’s constructivists schema is suggestive that children base their beliefs on things that they have seen up until that point in their lives, however future experiences can change their thoughts and beliefs resulting in a new schema. Children can use creativity to help them to understand what they have seen, for example- a child may have noticed an elderly person and called them ‘grandma’ however when they were to next see their grandma their parent may point out the difference so that the child can create a new schema and understanding that not every elderly person is their grandma. Children can use creativity to help them to develop an understanding

6 How does the theory of creativity impact practice.
Practitioners can use Skinners theory within their practice as they can create an environment that supports and encourages creativity. Through practitioners also understanding this theory, they will be more likely to allow and encourage children to be creative. Practitioners  will know that children need need to be creative independently, this means practitioners should not be over bearing to the children and allow them to make their own choices. Practitioners can also provide resources for the children to inspire creativity, such as building materials so they can make objects using their creativity and imagination.
