Why a Center for the Study of Collaborative Design is concerned?
A few remarks. CSCD is a laboratory developping research and training in Science in society issues. Science and Technology Studies went through a major mutation around 2006: they were born in the 1970s in a context of strong criticism on the control by the State apparatus and business firms on science and technology. Around 2006, with Tony Blair’s New labor movement, the expertise built since the late 1980, led major British researchers to assert that Science studies had to become « policy oriented ». They could do so without losing their critical edge based on all resources of Human and social sciences. 17/04/2017 CSCD & iPrism seminar on new European IP regime

This evolution led to face new issues and develop new expertise and interest: Economics of innovation is certainly the most important outcome of this evolution Sociology of research and innovation became broader, more politically pertinent and less politically partisan. The knowledge produced and communicated became the platform of debates with the various communities concerned by science and technology, with government, businesses, universities and also with society. 17/04/2017 CSCD & iPrism seminar on new European IP regime

Why a Center for the Study of Collaborative Design is concerned?
Japan and Germany, with the UK, were and are without any doubt the nations most active and innovative in this evolution. This movement led to a sort of General Schumpeterian theory, which can summarized in two sentences: Innovation comes from all corners of society Innovation is a property of a type of social system. This remains a challenge. 17/04/2017 CSCD & iPrism seminar on new European IP regime

Why a Center for the Study of Collaborative Design is concerned?
In this dynamic, the role played by innovations in Industrial property law has been left in a sort of conceptual shadow, left in the hands of lawyers in law firms and in businesses, or in last resource in the hands of Courts. Since 2000 and the first crisis of the bubble economy, the role of IP has been leaving the shade and is gaining its full place among human and social sciences What is remarkable in Europe new Unitary Patent system is that it is a major Schumpeterian innovation, potentially quite positively disruptive. 17/04/2017 CSCD & iPrism seminar on new European IP regime
