This week we are thinking about the joy of being generous
This week we are thinking about the joy of being generous. As a school we are going to raise money to help Educaid. What is Educaid? Let’s find out…

Here is a map of the world. Can you find the United Kingdom
Here is a map of the world. Can you find the United Kingdom? Can you find Africa? Today we will learn about a place called Sierra Leone, which is in West Africa.
3
Sierra Leone is in West Africa
Sierra Leone is the 8th poorest country in the world. Most people do not reach 50 years of age and 1 in 3 children die before they are 5 years old.
4
The following slides show what life is like in Sierra Leone.
5
Here are the living conditions.
Would you like to live here?
6
The Children carry wood for building houses and the school.
7
The paths often flood making it hard for children to walk to where they need to go.
8
Dinner time. It’s rice again, the same as every other day.
9
Water is collected from wells in buckets
Water is collected from wells in buckets. The water is taken home and used for cooking and washing.
10
The children do not have bathrooms with showers so they wash in local rivers.
11
EducAid is an organization that helps children in this area
EducAid is an organization that helps children in this area. They run 13 schools which means that 3,000 children can go to school.
12
The children enjoy lessons.
13
The school provides them with mid-day meals.
14
They take their shoes off before going into school to keep the school clean.
Do you think we should do this?
15
Alongside lessons like the ones we have, the children learn how to grow food to eat.
16
Providing the children with education means they will be able to get good jobs and do things that provide work for others, such as setting up businesses. This will help Sierra Leone to become a richer country able to spend money on roads, health care, decent housing, police forces and many other useful things.
17
We can help the children of Sierra Leone by raising money for them.
What can you buy for £16:50 in this country? A pizza and a coke maybe. But in Sierra Leone, £16:50 will pay for one child to go to school for a month and have the food and care they need.
18
What do you think we could do as a school to raise money so that children in Sierra Leone can go to school? Talk to the person next to you. Put your hand up if you would like to share your idea with the class.
19
Let’s Pray Heavenly Father, we have so much in this country including: houses, schools, cars, roads, running water and lots of different types of food. Help us to remember children who do not have as much as we have. Give us good ideas of ways to raise money for them so they can go to school. Amen
